iFixit: Apple iPhone 5 Outsmarts iPhone 4S [Video]
Apple iPhone 5, the sixth generation iPhone with the iOS 6 mobile platform was unveiled by the Cupertino based tech titan a few days back and its sales debut from today in selected markets including Australia, US and UK.
While many Apple fanboys are disappointed with the iPhone 5 as it misses some important elements like the NFC, Retina Display and wireless charging among others, iFixit, a renowned repair company has come up with their usual teardown job on the new iPhone to estimate how the device stacks up against the other dominators in the current market.
The smartphone has proved itself with a fantastic score sheet. Reportedly, the experts at iFixit claim that the procedure of repairing the iPhone 5 is completely different from than of the iPhone 4 and 4S. Moreover, Fixit officials suggest that the iPhone 5 is the most reparable Apple product ever.
The phone can be easily opened from front-to-back with a suction cup, hinting that replacing the glass will not be too difficult for most, and both the battery and display assembly are also easily removable. Also, the metal bracket-supported Home button will make it easy to remove the button as it gets less responsive over time.
The current iPhone has a slightly larger 3.8V battery when compared to the 3.7V battery in the 4S. While, the logic-board on the former is smaller than the one in its predecessor, it packs the new A6 chip and the rumored Qualcomm MDM9615M LTE modem, which supports several wireless bands.
When it comes to the everyday wear and tear, the iPhone 5 is claimed to be reasonably scratch-resistant with its black aluminum coating.
Finally, while speaking about the repairability score, iPhone 5 scores 7/10, which is quite reasonable for an Apple product. It is to be noted that the score of iPhone 4S is 6/10.
On the specifications front, iPhone 5 houses a bigger 4 inch display with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels, new Apple A6 chipset, 1GB RAM, 16GB/32GB/64GB internal memory, 8MP rear camera with iSight technology and 1.2MP front camera for video calling.
Further, the iPhone 5 will come loaded with over 200 new features as it runs on the iOS 6 – the latest version of the mobile OS.
iPhone 5 has connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, 4G LTE, 3G and micro USB 2.0 support. The battery is claimed by Apple to offer a talk time of 8 hours and standby of 225 hours.
