Here are 10 things to know about the new Mi4i:
The 16GB model will be made available at a price of Rs. 12,999. The phone comes in five juicy colours.
The Xiaomi Mi4i will be available in India on April 30. Registrations for the sale had begun on Flipkart on the launched day itself i.e. April 23, 2015. The Mi4i will be initially sold through a flash sale via Flipkart on April 30.
The Mi4i looks and feels just as premium, but most of the phone is made of plastic. The Mi4i is super compact, more comfortable to hold, measuring 7.8mm thick and tipping the scales at 130g.
Thanks to Xiaomi's Sunlight display technology, we were impressed with the screen quality, with colours appearing vibrant and text crisp. The 5-inch Full HD screen, supplied by Sharp, offers much higher brightness levels, great viewing angles and overall clarity.
The past several generations of Mi handsets have all had top-end cameras, and the Mi4i is no different. The Xiaomi Mi4i uses a 13-megapixel CMOS sensor, 5-element lens, f/2.0 aperture, and dual-tone flash. Xiaomi has made several improvements to its camera, too, including the ability to shoot better photos in low-light.
The Mi4i also features a 5-megapixel sensor, with f/1.8 aperture and 80 degrees wide-angle lens. On paper, the Mi4i's front-facing shooter should trump its competitors; however, we found that the device struggled to compete in poor lighting conditions.
The Mi4i features a second-generation 1.7GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 2GB of RAM. We found that the Mi4i is slightly snappier at opening and closing apps, and found it handled multitasking. The handset is powered by a powerful 3,120mAh battery, which should last a day and half on a single charge.
The Xiaomi Mi4i comes with 16GB internal memory, but no option to expand it. The company says that they do have plans to launch the Mi4i with 32GB storage option, but there's no confirmation on the same.
Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, LTE support, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
Interface and Apps
Xiaomi's latest flavor of Android, which it calls MIUI 6, is its best yet. It's less clumsy and cluttered than the software you'll find on the Samsung Galaxy S6. Also, the Mi 4i is also the first smartphone from Xiaomi to run on Android Lollipop. Xiaomi has also added support for 6 regional languages (Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam) and Visual IVR for especially for India.
