Intex Aqua 4.0 vs Samsung Galaxy Y Duos: Which Android Phone Is Worth Your Wallet?

To cater the demands of below the line consumer segment, Intex Technologies released their first Android smartphone – Aqua 4.0 – a budget Dual SIM handset priced at Rs 5,490 on Tuesday.

Lately, one more smartphone entered the Indian smartphone market – the South Korean giant's Dual SIM budget smartphone -- Samsung Galaxy Y Duos – priced at Rs 8,799. Till now, the handset is doing pretty well in the market, attracting significant sales figures.

With the launch of Intex Aqua 4.0, which has almost similar specs, when compared to Samsung Galaxy Y Duos – at a lower price, the new handset may pose a great threat to the latter. As, Aqua 4.0 is a customized handset for the Indian market with support for both Hindi and English interface, on the other end the Samsung model only supports English language.

Let us take a brief look on the other features of both the handsets through a spec comparison between Intex Aqua 4.0 and Samsung Galaxy Y Duos.

Dimension and Display: Available in Black and White color, Intex Aqua 4.0 boasts a cool and sleek look, though the dimensions of the handset are not revealed by the company. On the other hand, Galaxy Y Duos has a glossy finish and carries a dimension of 109.8 x 60 x 12 mm at a weight of 109 grams.

Coming on to screen display, Aqua 4.0 sports a larger 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, while, Galaxy Y Duos sports a 3.14 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

Operating System: Being budget smartphones, both run on the older version of the Google's OS – Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Processor: In the segment, Aqua is equipped with an 800 MHz processor while the Galaxy Y Duos is equipped with a little better 832 MHz processor.

Camera: Aqua 4.0 has a 3MP rear camera, which can capture photos with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and also has a 0.3MP VGA front camera.

On the other hand, Galaxy Y Duos sports a slightly higher 3.15 MP camera that can capture images with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. However, the handset lacks a front camera.

Storage: When it comes to storage capacity, Aqua has 131MB internal storage while Galaxy Y Duos has and slightly higher 160MB of internal memory. But at the same time, both the handsets have a micro SD card slot, which supports expandable memory up to 32GB.

Connectivity: On the connectivity front, both the handsets come packed with features like Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, 3G with 7.2Mbps HSDPA, and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA and Wi-Fi features.

Battery: Aqua 4.0 is powered by a 1,400 mAh battery, which offers 3 hours talk time and 140 hours standby time while Galaxy Y Duos is loaded with a 1,300 mAh Li-ion battery which can fuel up to 17 hours of talk time and 6 hours on 2G and 3G networks, respectively, and a standby time of 360 hours.

Verdict

Both the smartphones are equipped with latest sensor technologies and features like FM radio, music player, sound recorder and more. However, Intex Aqua 4.0 has more pre-loaded apps including Gmail, Flipkart, Facebook, India Rail, Google Maps, Nimbuzz, Skype, and YouTube, as well as, features like Push E-mail, video capture, mobile tracker, calendar, notes, alarm, calculator, and Traffic Monitor.

However, Galaxy Y Duos has a Dual-SIM feature which is practicable for many consumers, at the same time, the handset has also proved its performance in the market with ever increasing customer demand. On the other end, Intex Aqua 4.0 has just been released. Hence, we will have to wait and watch, what kind of response will the newly launched handset obtain from the Indian market.
