Intex To Launch 5 Budget Friendly Smartphones by October
Popular Indian mobile handset manufacturer Intex is making a plunge into the smartphone segment with five new phones waiting for release from the company’s shelves. With the release of these budget friendly phones, Intex aims to get hold of mobile markets in tier 2 and 3 cities. The new devices will fit in a price range of Rs. 5,000 andRs.10,000. Intex also plans to launch 5 new tablet PCs in the current fiscal.
As an initial step towards expanding its market presence, Intex had launched Aqua 4.0 smartphone last week. Intex believes that this is the perfect time to enter into the smartphone market. Intex Technologies GM Sanjay Kumar was quoted saying “Smartphones is an evolved category in India for multinationals but it was a slow paced game for domestic companies. Of late, consumers have started taking note of domestic smartphones which clearly indicates that the market has opened up for companies like Intex.”
Intex Aqua 4.0, an affordable smartphone priced at Rs. 5,490 was well received by consumers all across India. Intex plans to add five more models to the catalogue by the end of current quarter. The company is targeting revenue of Rs.400 crore from mobile sales, 20 percent of which is expected to arrive from smartphone sales. This target is not over the top considering Intex’s well established distribution setup. Currently the company has 100 super distributors, 500 distributors and over 13000 retail partners in India. Intex also plans to double the number of retail partners by end of this financial year.
