After a successful launch the US, UK, Australia and other key areas on September 21, Apple has further expanded the presence of the iPhone 5 in 22 more countries on September 28.
Apple marked a record in the sales during the first weekend by selling over 5 million units despite of the criticism about the new iOS 6, scratches on panel and the Apple Maps features.
Yesterday, the sixth generation iPhone was launched in 22 countries including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Also, the rural and regional carriers of America such as Cricket, C Spire, Bluegrass Cellular, Cellcom, GCI, Golden State Cellular, Nex-Tech Wireless, Pioneer Wireless, Appalachian Wireless, MTA Solutions and nTelos have received the iPhone 5.
Earlier this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook was quoted saying, “Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible. While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone.”
However, when it comes to India, Apple will be releasing the smartphone only in December claim several reports from numerous sources. In the meantime, consumers willing to grab one for themselves prior to the official release can avail it by paying double the cost from the grey markets.
It is to be noted that Apple iPhone 5 is selling for Rs 75,000 to Rs 1,10,000 in India while the analysts have assumed the handset to be priced at Rs 50,000.
Talking about the specifications of the iPhone 5, it houses a 4 inch display with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels, a new Apple A6 chipset, 1GB RAM, 16GB/32GB/64GB internal memory, 8MP rear camera with iSight technology and 1.2MP front camera.
Further, the iPhone 5 is powered by the iOS 6 platform with new features such as improved Siri voice assistant feature, deeper integration to Facebook, new PassBook and PhotoStream apps, Apple Maps, enhanced Safari browser and many more.
The smartphone comes packed with connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, 4G LTE, 3G and micro USB 2.0 support. As per Apple, the battery in the smartphone offers 8 hours talk time and 225 hours standby.
