Apple may announce its iPhone Lite alongside next-generation iPhone on September 18. A lot has been said and written about Apple's low-cost version of iPhone. Many believe that the Cupertino-based giant will announce low-cost iPhone for emerging markets like India, China and Latin America. For instance, Apple has succeeded in selling iPhone 4, its cheapest handset in India.
With the help of heavy discounts and EMI schemes, Apple proved that India is not that tough to do business. During the reign of Steve Jobs, India was neglected and sidelined. Now the command is in the hands of Tim Cook, who is said to be more pro-active in expanding company's market in unexplored destinations.
So India has a chance to see iPhone Lite in the coming months. Rumors say the iPod maker will discontinue iPhone 4, so the lowest option in front of consumers has to be iPhone 4S.
Apple's iPhone Lite is said to share same hardware specifications with the current generation iPhone. In simple language, probably you will see use of polycarbonate plastic to make iPhone Lite instead of lush aluminum chassis to reduce manufacturing cost. It's not confirmed, but if reports are to be believed, then one could see the pricing at par with what Samsung currently charges for its mid-ranged Galaxy smartphone line-up.
Certainly, Apple has failed to sell its ‘Magical ‘iPhone 5 in countries like India and China. For Apple, western countries still remains open, while Indian consumers are price conscious.
The biggest reason why the South Korean player Samsung triumphs Apple in India is simple: Variety and affordable price. Yes, its true Samsung made mid-end Galaxy smartphones are not magnificent as Apple devices, but they costs much cheaper than Apple handsets (even cheaper than iPhone 4).
Samsung must have allocated a set amount on marketing and advertising, as far as Indian market is concerned. In case of Apple, the company is nonexistent in tier 2 cities, and most importantly the iPod marker cannot operate its own stores due to FDI norms, here in India.
Well, Apple iPhone Lite is surely coming to India in the coming days. Industry insiders suggest Apple to follow affordable pricing model. However, it is too early to comment on the exact price of iPhone Lite.
If Apple announce iPhone Lite in September, then get ready to see the device in the Indian market sometime October end or November second week( once again based on rumors). In India, Apple may price the cheapest version of iPhone at Rs. 21,990.
In the wake of rumors surrounding iPhone Lite, why not to feature top 5 speculated specifications of so-called Apple's low-cost iPhone. Have a look!
iPhone Lite to sport a 4-inch Display
Apple will likely to go with same 4-inch display used in the current-generation iPhone. And it makes sense for the company to rely on same vendor, who is supplying 4-inch panels currently. There were rumors of a 4.7-inch display to be used in the degraded version of iPhone. But now it seems that Apple has zero down on a 4-inch version having resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels. According to a new report, Apple may discontinue iPhone 5 to make low cost more visible.
iPhone Lite is said to be bulkier than iPhone 5
Design and form factor
While Apple is yet to announce iPhone Lite, but TACTUS have already planned cases for the unannounced handset several months ahead. According to case maker blog post, it is clearly mentioned that budget iPhone is said to be 9mm thick, 120 mm wide and a little bigger than iPhone 4S/4. The use of word "Retro Macs" was also used in the post. The low cost iPhone will be bulkier than current generation iPhone.
Apple going Nokia way ?
Apple's love for multicolored devices is not new. It dates back to good old iMac G3 days. The Cupertino-based giant still makes colored iPods. Clearly, Apple must be thinking about youth residing in India, who are already exposed to Nokia Asha range. Will you buy a yellow colored iPhone?
iPhone Lite to have a 5MP camera ?
Reports now confirmed the existence of iPhone Lite. But no one has ever talked about the camera. Apparently, if iPhone Lite is similar to iPhone 5 in terms of hardware, than probably the camera resolution has to be similar too. Industry insiders say Apple might have used a 5-mega pixel camera sensor with LED Flash, while another side believes in an 8-mega pixel sensor with LED Flash light.what do you think ?
iPhone Lite to be a mid-range device
Apple is known for charging a bit higher than its arch rivals. If Samsung sells Galaxy S4 for Rs. 40,000 in the Indian market, than surely Apple command a premium to differentiate itself from its competitors. With iPhone Lite, the company is ready to tackle Samsung and other Android brigade. On one side, Apple shareholders would like to see an affordable price tag attached to iPhone Lite, and even consumers also agree with shareholders. While, T.H. Tung, CEO of Pegatron (a lead manufacturer of Apple devices), expect Apple iPhone Lite to be a mid -range affair. What does that mean? Will you buy an Apple manufactured low cost iPhone?
