Google and Apple, the two big giants who are totally different in their approach towards market and business. Google on one hand believes to provide the users with the best Open Source applications or services and one the other hand Apple does not leave a single chance of taxing its users (even if we talk about upgrading the Mac OS).
Recently Google launched the successor to the hot selling Nexus 4, the LG made Nexus 5. The new flagship smartphone comes with the package of Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, 5 inches Full HD Display (445 PPI) and the newest Google operating system Android 4.4 Kitkat. The best part, is the price of the handset in combination of the hardware specifications, as the smartphone is now available in India at an affordable price of Rs 28,999 .
On the other hand, iPhone 5S also made an entry into the Indian market early November 2013. It came equipped with the display of 4 Inches and the resolution of 326 PPI (Retina Display), dual core cyclone 1.3 GHz (ARMv8) and iOS7, which analysts believed wasn't a huge upgrade over its predecessor iPhone 5. Also, the iPhone 5S is currently available at the price of nearly Rs 51,000.
Today, GizBot thought to compare both of these sizzling handsets to find out which of these, Nexus 5 or iPhone 5S is worth its price and will be the perfect choice for your next smartphone upgrade. Take a look!
The display of LG Nexus 5 (4.95 Inches) better when compared to iPhone 5S because the pixel density in case of Nexus 5 is 445 ppi which is more than 326ppi in case of iPhone 5S (4 Inches). However, the difference is not much visible because of the better UI features of iOS7. In both the cases, display is protected by a coating. Nexus 5 claims to have a corning Gorilla Glass 3 and iPhone 5S has a Gorilla Glass (but the version is not specified).
On the other hand, iPhone 5S has its aluminum metallic feel which is much better than the plastic body of LG Nexus 5. The back of iPhone 5S is highly prone to scratches and it is very light as compared to its previous version, so a traditional iPhone user will really like this device. Nexus 5 carries its looks and design (to a huge extent) from its predecessor.
Processor Power, RAM and Storage Capacity
When talking about the power of the device, then LG Nexus 5 completely outruns the iPhone 5S with ARMv7 based 4 Krait cores in Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 which operate at the frequency 2.23 GHz. iPhone 5S has the processor named cyclone based on the latest ARM architecture (which is ARMv8) but it has only 2 cores and that too operate at the frequency of 1.3 GHz.
The low power of the processor and the memory allocated to RAM (which is 2GB in case of Nexus 5 and 1GB DDR3 in case of iPhone 5S) is not a problem for iPhone 5S because iOS7 does not ask such a heavy processor and high RAM memory allocation.
Nexus 5 is available with 16GB and 32GB Internal Storage capacity whereas iPhone 5S comes as 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants. In both the cases, you do not have any option for using external memory card.
If you will go by the count of Megapixels then iPhone 5S and Nexus 5 both have 8MP as the primary camera. The image quality taken by both the cameras are almost the same, but recent reviews have mentioned that Nexus 5 have been facing lots of issues with the stabilizing issues on image capturing.
The camera aperture in case of Nexus 5 is F2.4 with Single LED support and it is F2.4 in case of iPhone 5S with Dual LED support.
Battery and Dimensions
Nexus 5 and iPhone 5S weigh 130g and 112g respectively, which is again close. The battery strength in case of Nexus 5 is 2300 mAh (17 hrs talk-time on 2G) and it is 1560 mAh (10 hrs talk-time on 2G) in case of iPhone 5S.
OS and UI
We all know that Nexus phone is always launched for the sole purpose of unveiling the new Android OS version. So, you have the latest Android Kitkat on Nexus 5 along with ‘OK Google' (a voice command based application which performs the basic features on the device like setting reminder, googling anything etc). iPhone 5S was launched with the release of iOS7 which is now upgradable to iOS 7.0.4 (includes fixes to lots of bugs in iOS7).
Verdict: Why such a Huge Difference in Price?
Apple chooses to serve the niche segment of the market and thus they never compromise on the price of their products. The user experience provided by Apple through their iPhone is pretty good as compared to the Android devices. For Example,- when BBM was about to enter the market for Android and iOS platforms then several fake version of BBM were available on Google Play Store which troubled most of the Android users who were waiting for this application but this did not happen with App Store.
Similarly the after sale service provided by Apple in India has the provision of ‘On The Spot Device Exchange' which says that if a customer brings a faulty iPhone at the service center of Apple then it will be replaced then and there with a new edition of the same device.
iPhone does not lag and it is very rare that an iPhone gets infected by any virus attack because iPhone does not even allow a user to view the File system of the OS. Now this can be a big restriction for the geeky users (which is usually a minority) but due to this restriction users do not create silly problems for themselves.
All of the above facts are responsible for the high prices of Apple and obviously brand value of Apple is also responsible for making their products expensive.
Though the price difference is huge but Apple iPhone 5S gives a great experience to the users but for the price sensitive section and Android fanboys Nexus 5 will be the best choice.
