Jolla Smartphone with Sailfish OS Officially Launched in India at Rs 16,499

Jolla has been one of those unsung names in the industry that have been making some noise with its Sailfish OS-enabled handset. However, after months of wait, the company has now officially launched the handset in India.

Jolla, as you may already know, is a smartphone start-up company from Finland. The company has now launched its first Jolla smartphone in India exclusively on Snapdeal. This is after the company promised the same last week when the company released a teaser poster with the words "Join the Unlikely."

Launched in Hong Kong last month, Jolla, back in July, announced its plan to launch its first Jolla smartphone in India exclusively on Snapdeal. The handset comes with an unique design with the device being divided into two distinct parts.

HTHKH Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Tan said back at the handset's Hong Kong launch: "We are thrilled to be the first in Asia to bring the Jolla smartphone that runs on the Sailfish OS to 3 Hong Kong customers. We believe Jolla is an exciting option for tech-savvy smartphone users who are looking for a new and fresh mobile user experience."

The new smartphone from the Finland-based startup comes with a 4.5-inch (960 x 540 pixels) qHD 5-point multi-touch IPS display with Gorilla Glass 2 protection. And as you may already know by now, the handset runs on the brand new Sailfish OS.

The new handset is powered by a 1.4 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 SoC. It offers a 8 megapixel AF primary rear camera with LED flash. Also, add a 2 megapixel front-facing camera for all your selfie and video calling needs.

The handset, which is 9.9 mm thick and weighs in at 141 grams, offers 16GB of internal storage. Alongside, there's 1GB of RAM and a MicroSD slot in case you want to increase the memory further. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n , Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and GLONASS.

Apart from that, the Jolla handset is juiced by a decent enough 2100mAh battery unit.

The Jolla smartphone comes in White color variant and is priced at Rs. 16,499 in India. The handset is exclusively available on Snapdeal. Also note that the first 90 orders will get the VIP box with Other Half covers in Poppy Red, Keira Black and Aloe colors.
