Karbonn S1 Titanium vs Micromax A116 Canvas HD: Desi Jelly Bean Handsets Fight For Leadership

It can be said that Indian manufacturers have plowed the definition of Phablets. As now the market is flooded with large screen handsets which wont burn a hole in your pocket and still would offer you with decent specs to hold on.

As, India based vendors are not only incorporating the large displays in their offerings, but also other features including quad core processors and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. This way, the native handset manufacturers are trying to maintain a balance between the brand conscious consumer base besides attracting the budget oriented consumers by offering quality at reasonable price tags.

Last week, Micromax and Karbonn shook the Indian smartphone arena with two exciting dual SIM handsets - A116 Canvas HD and S1 Titanium.

Both the devices might belong to different categories - a smartphone and a phablet, however, they are quad core handsets with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

When it comes to the availability in the Indian market, the Micromax offering will be available for purchase from the first week of the next month and is estimated to be priced at Rs 15,000. At the same time, the Karbonn handset is believed to be launched shortly and is believed to retail at Rs 12,999.

For those who are looking for performance oriented handsets at affordable price points, below is a spec comparison of Karbonn S1 Titanium and Micromax A116 Canvas HD. Read the comparison below and decide, which new quad core market entrant is worth buying.

Display: S1 Titanium boasts a 4.5 inch qHD multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, whereas, Canvas HD packs a larger 5 inch HD IPS capacitive touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution.

Processor: Both the handsets come equipped with a 1.2GHz quad core processor under their hood. The quad core chips mainly offer up to 50% greater performance than dual core processors, better multi-tasking, increased efficiency and reduced average system power consumption.

Operating System: Again, both the devices head against each other with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system that comes with features including Project Butter for more responsiveness and smoother navigation, improved Android notifications, live wallpaper support and more.

Camera: In this segment, A116 Canvas HD scores more with an 8MP rear camera and VGA front camera as compared to the 5MP rear camera and VGA front camera in S1 Titanium.

Storage: Both the handsets come with 4GB internal storage and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage.

Connectivity: When it comes to data connectivity, S1 Titanium and Canvas HD come packed with features including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and micro USB 2.0.

Battery: While Canvas HD is powered by a 2.100 mAh battery of undisclosed backup, S1 Titanium is loaded with a 1,600 mAh battery claimed to deliver up to 4 hours talk time.

Price: Micromax A116 Canvas HD is estimated to be priced at Rs 15,000 and Karbonn S1 Titanium is priced at Rs 12,999.

Verdict

Both the Karbonn and Micromax offerings come with similarities in the processor and operating system fronts, however, falling into different categories, these devices are quite different from each other.

When it comes to S1 Titanium, the handset comes with a lesser price tag as compared to the Micromax offering.

On the other hand, A116 Canvas HD comes with a larger display being a phablet and improved battery spec alongside better camera.
