Samsung Galaxy Star vs Karbonn Smart A4+: Newly Launched Budget Android Smartphones Compared
Google's Android OS not only made mobile phones smarter, but apparently made them affordable. When Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman Google, paid a visit to India earlier this year; he expressed to see an Android run smartphone costing less than Rs 3,000. In the year 2013, it may look like a dream, but come next year you would easily find a branded smartphone around Rs. 2,500.
Samsung, the South Korean player, is watching this segment with open eyes. That's why the folks over at Samsung announced Galaxy Star at Rs. 4,990. It is now being made available through online shopping site Infibeam. The handset can be spotted on Samsung India site without set price.
Today, another Android powered handset appeared on the web. The Karbonn Smart A4+ is an opt rival to Galaxy Star. Priced at Rs. 5,299, it comes with solid specifications when compared to Samsung made Galaxy Star. GizBot pits both handsets against each other to find out the best low -end Android smartphone.

Display
The Galaxy Star comes with a 3-inch QVGA TFT display with resolution of 320 X 420 pixels. On the other hand, Smart A4 + packs a 4-inch IPS display with resolution of 480 X 800 pixels. Of course when compared to Samsung Galaxy Star - IPS display is far better than TFT LCD display.
OS
Do not expect Android 4.2 Jelly Bean at this price point, but make sure you won't settle less than v4.1 Jelly Bean. The Galaxy Star packs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile OS.
Sadly, the Smart A4+ comes preloaded with Android 4.0 ICS. It is even older than v4.1 Jelly Bean. It is to be seen whether Karbonn is willing to update the software in the coming months or not.
Processor and RAM
Galaxy Star is powered by 1GHz processor coupled with 512MB of RAM. What does that mean? You can run latest games and apps without creepy experience.
In terms of horse power, Karboon Smart A4+ is no different from Galaxy Star. Both devices flaunt 1GHz of CPU and 512BMB of RAM.
Storage
The Samsung Galaxy Star comes fitted with 4GB of ROM which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD cards. In terms of storage, if you buy a Karbonn Smart A4+ you will get an expandable storage up to 32GB via microSD card.
Camera
In the imaging department, you will find a 2-mega pixel rear facing camera in Samsung Galaxy Star and 3.2-mega pixel rear facing camera in Karbonn Smart A4+. No front facing camera given in both.
Connectivity options
Samsung Galaxy Star is a Dual SIM featured handset which packs Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB 2.0. Also in Karbonn Smart A4+, there is no 3G connectivity given, but the manufacturer has added Wi-Fi connection. Other options include: Bluetooth, and USB 2.0
Battery
In Samsung Galaxy Star, the manufacturer has managed to add a 1,200mA battery inside. On the other hand, the Smart A4+ comes loaded with slightly battery (1250mAh) than the Galaxy Star.
Price
As mentioned above, Samsung Galaxy Star will cost Rs. 4,990 and the Karbonn Smart A4+ is being priced at Rs 5,299, in the Indian market.
Conclusion
There isn't much difference between the Galaxy Star and Karbonn Smart A4+. It is always better to consider a device with latest updated OS. So, on paper go for Samsung Galaxy Star.
