Lenovo K900 Review: All Round Entertainer
UI and OS
The handset comes preloaded with Android v4.2 (Jelly Bean). Taking about the UI, Lenovo has kept things clean and minimal with the K900. The lock screen allows you to slide into four different sections, the home screen, the camera, messaging and the dialer. Apart from a few useful apps and widgets, Lenovo has kept everything minimal, light and clean in the new K900. As you'll notice, the design stays in line with what we've seen in previous phones.
Camera
Apart from its brilliant display, the phone's camera is wonderful as well. It scores high in every imaging aspect: daylight shots, low-light shots, macro mode, indoor, outdoor, panorama, color reproduction, noise levels and more. As shocking as it is, the imaging abilities of the K900 can even rival the iPhone 5 and Lumia series.
Below are some sample shots, GizBot team took from the Lenovo K900.
Performance
The phablet uses an Intel Atom Z2580 dual-core 2GHz processor which has Hyper Threading. There's a PowerVR SGX544 chip for graphics along with 2GB RAM. On paper, all this sounds wonderful, but things were somewhat different in our performance tests when it came to playing some graphically intense games, as there were lags every now and then.
Multi-tasking was smooth and we encountered no problems there, but we did notice, tiny, dismiss-able lags while switching between apps. On the other end, Video playback went smoothly without any issues and the phone was able to handle multi-tabbed browsing on Chrome without any problems or lags.
But here's one of the biggest issues that we encountered: over heating. While playing games, everything from subway surfer to the more intense Minion Rush and then Asphalt 8 Airborne, the phone faced some serious over-heating issues. We could feel heat dissipating on the rear of the phone.
Meanwhile, Lenovo K900 delivered some decent results in many of the benchmarks tests that we put it through. Have a look at them below.
Battery
Here's what we threw at the phone on a regular day: 30 minutes of phone calls, a few hours of Whatsapp-ing, six to seven pictures, an hour of Facebook, Instagram, Google Plus and Pocket. Thirty minutes of gaming. The result? The phone was drained by around 8 in the evening. So that's one day of battery life.
Memory
Here's a flaw hat Lenovo should have been more careful about. The handset has no expandable memory, so you are stuck with the 9.77GB of user available internal memory. For a premium handset, this is extremely low.
