A war has been waged. Two companies with very different backgrounds and establishments trying to outsmart each other with the top of the Indian domestic market up for grabs. While one is the Apple made iPhone 5S, the other is the Chinese made Lenovo Vibe Z.
Both the devices have a number of features, capabilities and specifications which are both enviable and unique for others also competing to stay afloat in the current open market, if not claim profit.
While the Apple-made iPhone 5s has been around in the market for some time, the Lenovo Vibe Z has just been announced only recently wih features that are both commendable and impressive - Like both of its mega-pixel rich cameras at the back and the front of the device.
On the other hand, while Apple may just have missed on the popularity that's currently generated in the domestic market via Android-based smartphones - probably due to their cheap price tags and more hardware under the hood - there's still no way by which a potential competitor can rule out any device made by the Cupertni-based tech giant.
However, being specific in this case, both Vibe Z and 5s offer a lot of promise of a future that's just around the corner. But how do they stack up against each other? Let's take a closer look
As far as operating systems are concerned, the Apple-made iPhone 5s, as expected, runs on iOS 7 out of the box. And although the device can be later upgraded to iOS v7.0.4, according to the claims made by a host of previously released reports, Apple has already released the next iOS 7.0.5 for selected Chinese and European iPhone models.
And if that falls true in the long run for every device running on Apple's OS, it will only be sooner rather than later before the device gets the update internationally.
The Lenovo Vibe Z, on the other hand, runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system. However, there's no information as of now if the device will indeed be receiving any further update for an Android upgrade to the next gen Android KitKat.
Display and Dimensions
The Lenovo Vibe Z sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, while rendering 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution. The iPhone 5S, comparatively, comes with a 4-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD, capacitive touch screen which renders a lesser 640 x 1136 pixels resolution.
And as far as device dimensions are concerned, The Lenovo Vibe Z comes with 149.1 x 77 x 7.9 mm dimensions and is a bit on the heavier side as it weighs in at 145.2 grams. The iPhone 5S, on the other hand, comes with 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm dimensions and weighs in at 112 grams - as light as ever.
The Lenovo Vibe Z sports an impressive 13-megapixel primary camera with autofocus and LED flash, rendering 4128 x 3096 pixels. The device also has an equally impressive secondary 5-megapixel camera on board that's more than enough for conducting video chats and taking group selfies.
The iPhone 5S, in terms of camera, boasts a smaller 8-megapixel primary camera with autofocus and dual LED flash rendering 3264x2448 pixels . The secondary camera on the device is a 1.2-megapixel shooter.
In terms of power generated, both the devices are suitable contenders for the top position. While the Lenovo Vibe Z is equipped with a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, coupled with presence of Adreno 330, its Apple counterpart powers up the iPhone 5s via a 1.3 GHz dual core cyclone processor that's assisted via an Apple A7 chipset.
Storage and RAM
As it seems, both the devices are somewhat equal in this respect. The Lenovo-made Vibe Z offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, although an external slot for expanding the memory further is not available.
The iPhone 5s, in this respect, offers 1GB of RAM and comes in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB internal memory variants, and, again a microSD slot for additional memory is missing.
While the iPhone 5S is available for Rs. 49,870, Rs. 62,500 and Rs. 69,999 for the device's 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB internal memory variants, respectively, the Lenovo Vibe Z is yet to be listed online. However, it will be made available in the market at the price of Rs. 35,999 by the last week of February or by March 1.
Considering the overall price factor and other features included in both the smartphones, it seems like the Vibe Z offers more than that of the iPhone 5s. And although Apple is a brand name that's instantly linked to the coolness quotient, the Lenovo Vibe Z could easily create problems for it in the long run.
And if Apple is to maintain its somewhat hold in the market, it has to think hard and think fast about its strategies related to future iPhones the company will be releasing to counter this threat of a device from Lenovo
