According to the latest buzz in the tech town, South Korean tech giant LG is planning release its recently announced curved display phone, the LG G Flex in select International markets in the coming months. Although the device is yet to be made available in its native market, but LG seems interested in launching the device in America, Japan and Europe, amongst other territories.
This has been reported by PhoneArena, the folks over there have confirmed that, a LG spokesperson has disclosed that "a global announcement for G Flex is in the works."
LG, South Korea's second largest handset manufacturer, is yet to reveal exact release date of its G Flex handset global launch. But at the same time, the bendable smartphone will be officially available in South Korea starting November 12.
On the other hand, Samsung also announced its first ever curved display, the Galaxy Round. Reportedly, the Galaxy series maker recently clarified that the company may not launch the Galaxy Round in other potential markets except for Korea, reason being, the lukewarm response which Samsung Galaxy Round received from the critics.
Meanwhile, LG has got positive response from local carriers in respect to the G-Flex. In a report by Korea Herald, LG Electronics Senior Vice-President (Mobile Communication) Kwon Bong-seok said, "We are now in discussions with global telecommunications firms. The curved smartphone (G Flex) is expected to be available in the U.S., Japanese, and European markets."
Analysts believe, with international potential market launch on the cards, there is a possibility that LG might launch G Flex in India during the first phase of launch, as the native market is turning quite fruitful for the South Korean smartphone vendor in the recent times. But the success of the curved display handset will completely depend on the pricing, which plays a winning role for any device in the price sensitive Indian market.
LG G Flex - Key Specifications
Talking about specifications, the LG G Flex comes with a 6-inch HD Curved OLED display having a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The Curved Plastic OLED display from LG Display has Real RGB sub-pixels for better colors and the display is vertically concave from top to bottom with a radius of 700mm.
The device is powered by a 2.26 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) processor and 450 MHz Adreno 330 GPU coupled with 2GB DDR3 RAM and 32GB of internal memory (expandable). Android Jelly Bean v4.2.2 comes out of the box.
There's a13MP rear camera with LED Flash which is capable of recording video at 1080p and the device also features a 2.1 MP front facing shooter.
Other connectivity features include: 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC. The handset measures 8.7mm in terms of thickness and weighs 177 grams. The makers have added a 3500mAh curved battery for the first time. Further, there is no update on the pricing and release date yet.
