The smartphone battle between LG, Apple and Samsung has gone fiercer. South Korea's second largest smartphone maker has just launched its brand new high-end phone, the G Pro 2, in its native market.

Last month, LG confirmed the existence of LG Pro 2, which was assumed to be announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, scheduled to happen in Barcelona, Spain.

The LG Pro 2 is a successor to highly successful - G Pro, which was launched last year, and went on becoming a successful handset in terms of sales. Let's take a look at the aesthetics of the phone.

The LG G Pro 2 features a gigantic 5.9-inch IPS LCD display having a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The screen has an extra slim bezel of 3.3mm, the official press release reads.

The phone's design is quite similar that of its current flagship device i.e. the G2. Yes, you will see signature buttons (power cum volume keys) on the back The G Pro 2 measures 8.3mm in terms of thickness and weighs 172grams.

As far as its internal hardware is concerned, the device features a 2.26GHz quad-core processor powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC with Adreno 330 GPU, backed by 3GB of RAM and 16GB/32B of internal memory, which can be later expanded via a microSD card slot.

LG claims the LG Pro 2 is the first handset to feature a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with Optical Image Stabilizer Plus (OIS+). Further, LG's proprietary OIS+ technology adds software anti-shake functionality, making it the best device for taking pictures.

The company also claims its newest high-end phone can rival many standalone point-&-shoot cameras, simply because the sensors and lens of the rear and front camera on the G Pro 2 have increased in both size and sensitivity.

Additionally, the G Pro 2's camera allows you to record 120fps videos , and one can edit them in three different speed: one-half slow motion, one-fourth slow motion and original.

Also, the 13MP rear-facing camera is capable of recording videos in 4K Ultra HD supported resolution.

Other features of G Pro 2's cameras include: Magic Focus, Natural Flash, Flash for selfie, Burst shot and Gallery collage.

Besides all, there is a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera given on the front side.

The G Pro 2 runs Android 4.4 Kitkat of the box. Just for the reminder, LG uses its native UX layer on the top of supplied OS, in case of the G Pro 2- its Android mobile OS. Here are some of the cool features of LG's UX user interface: Content Lock, Mini View and Dual Browser.

The LG Pro 2 also comes with a unique feature called Knock Code, which makes unlocking and using the phone easier and more convenient than ever before.

Good news, folks! The LG G Pro 2 comes with a removable 3,200mAH battery fitted inside. Though, we would've appreciated if the company had added at least 3,400mAh battery.

LG claims the G Pro 2's incorporates a high-power 1W Hi-Fi like sound, that's 30 percent louder, when compared to its predecessor.

Other highlighted connectivity options include: 4G LTE, HSPA+, Bluetooth Smart Ready (BT 4.0), USB, WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), NFC and SlimPort, amongst others

The handset will be made available in Red, White and Titan colors. No update on when it will be made available in retail shelves worldwide. Though, the G Pro 2 will be demoed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC).

The LG will likey to face stiff comptition from the likes of Samsung, Nokia and HTC. Why ? This is for the first time, LG has come up with a huge phone ( barring the LG G Flex) in the marlet. The G Pro 2 will face direct competition from the Nokia Lumia 1520, HTC One Max and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in the so-called ' high-end' smartphone category.

Can LG make it big with the G Pro 2 ? Only time will tell.
