Obviously, it is true that Samsung is now the biggest rival of Apple, which has planned to ship 390 million units in 2013. On the other side, the sales of LG handsets are also ramping up. In the coming days, LG is going to be the second biggest threat for Apple in smartphone market, claims a recent report from Counterpart Research.
LG usually follows a strategy of announcing the launch of its new devices via its official website. The same way, on Wednesday, the South Korean tech giant launched two new handsets - Optimus L3 2 and Optimus L7 2 in India without much fanfare.
While the LG India website has listed Optimus L3 2 and Optimus L7 2 at a price of Rs 8,800 and Rs 18,650 respectively. However, the online retailers in the country are listing the two smartphones at much lesser price tags. For instance, Flipkart has listed Optimus L3 2 and Optimus L7 2 at Rs 7,899 and Rs 14,990 and Infibeam is selling them at Rs 7,799 and Rs 14, 890 after discount.
But, a big question running in the minds of many could be what is so different between the models? Also, many would be thinking, whether to buy the new LG Optimus range or not? Well, to clear all your confusions, here is a Gizbot comparison between Optimus L3 2 and Optimus L7 2 helping you decide to make a smart purchase.
Form Factor: Optimus L3 2 boasts a dimension of 102.6 x 61.1 x 11.9 mm and weighs in at 107 grams making it relatively thicker than Optimus L7 2 measuring 121.5 x 66.6 x 9.7 mm in dimension and weighing in at 118 grams.
Further, Optimus L3 2 packs a 3.2 inch IPS LCD multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 125 ppi pixel density approximately.
On the other hand, Optimus L7 2 houses a larger 4.3 inch IPS LCD multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and 217 ppi pixel density.
As both the LG smartphones are incorporated with IPS displays, they will offer excellent viewing angles and faster response times. But, Optimus L7 2 is a better offering as it comes with increased pixel density.
Processor: In this segment, again, Optimus L7 2 scores more with a dual core 1GHz Cortex A5 Qualcomm Snapdragon processor as compared to the singe core 1GHz Qualcomm processor in Optimus L3 2.
Operating System: Both the smartphones are based on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS out of the box and hence, they will come with features including Project Butter, which offers faster, smoother and responsive performance, expandable and contractible Android notifications, resizable App Widgets functionality, high resolution contact photos, live wallpapers, Android Beam app and more.
Camera: In terms of camera, Optimus L7 2 has a better 8MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and a VGA front camera for video calling. In comparison, Optimus L3 2 comes with a 3.15MP rear camera and lacks a front camera, which could be annoying for many.

Battery: While Optimus L3 2 is loaded with a 1,540 mAh Li-Po battery, its bigger brother is equipped with a 2,460 mAh Li-ion battery offering up to 800 hours standby and 12 hours talk time.
Price: As mentioned above, LG has launched Optimus L3 2 at Rs 8,800 and Optimus L7 2 at Rs 18,650 respectively.
LG Optimus L3 2 and Optimus L7 2 are entry-level Android Jelly Bean offerings, from the house of the South Korean manufacturer and hence, they will have almost similar features and offer the same user experience to the consumers.
From the specifications, it is clear that both the handsets have similar connectivity features and storage, but, they also do have some difference between them.
Optimus L7 2 being a mid-range offering has a better display, a faster and dual core processor and an improved camera performance as well. At the same time, for those who are not too concerned on the processor spec and front camera, the low priced Optimus L3 2 should be a better offering.
