As the budget-friendly smartphones, tablets and phablets are gaining significant market share in the price conscious Indian consumer market more manufacturers are offering low priced devices in order to attract the consumers.

Moreover, in the current market trend, the crave for large sized phablets is increasing among the consumers right from the evolution of the original Samsung Galaxy Note in 2011.

Recently, more consumers are buying such large sized phablets with high-end features at a low price tag, so that it does not hurt their wallets.

At the same time, due to the emergence of phablets, the smartphones have not vanished and local handset vendors are concentrating on both types of consumer products.

Following this strategy, Indian vendors such as Micromax and Karbonn have recently come up with budget-friendly devices – Canvas A100 and A18 packed with decent and impressive specifications. Also, to main a stiff competition with the other product, these devices are priced competitively.

Both these devices are powered by the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and have dual SIM capability. Moreover, they are priced in the sub Rs 10,000 price tag, which makes them lovable.

Dimensions & Weight: While the dimensions and weight of Karbonn A18 has not been disclosed by the company, Canvas A100 carries a dimension of 72.6 x 142.2 x 11.9 mm and weighs around 168 grams.

Display: Talking about the display, being a phablet, Canvas A100 packs a 5 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.

In comparison, A18 houses a 4.3 inch multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.

Operating System: In this section, both the devices run on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Hence, they will offer similar user interface and touch experience.

Processor: On the processor front, both Canvas A100 and A18 fare equally with a 1GHz processor.

Camera: Canvas A100 has a 5MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash and a 0.3MP front camera for video calling.

On the other hand, A18 has an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 0.3MP front camera, for video calling.

Storage: In this segment, Canvas A100 has 2GB internal storage and 512MB RAM while A18 has 1GB internal memory and 512MB RAM.

Further, both the devices have a micro SD card slot, which supports expandable memory of up to 32GB.

Connectivity: When it comes to the connectivity front, both the devices come packed with features like 3G, micro USB 2.0, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi features.

Battery: Canvas A100 is powered by a 2,000 mAh Li-ion battery which offers 5 hours talk time and 180 hours standby time while the Karbonn A18 is loaded with 1,500 mAh battery which offers 5 hours talk time and 200 hours standby.

Price: When it comes to pricing, Micromax Superfone Pixel A90 Is priced at Rs 9,999 while Karbonn A18 is priced at Rs 9,790.

Verdict

Both the Micromax Canvas A100 and Karbonn A18 are mid-range Android devices with pretty decent specifications.

Speaking about the Micromax offering, the phablet lacks the Aisha voice assistant feature, which is preinstalled even in the entry-level smartphones of the company – Smarty A25.

At the same time, Karbonn A18 is also preloaded with several apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, Karbonn Smart Browser, King Soft Office, NexGTv and PayTM.

For those consumers who prefer to have a larger display real estate, good touch response and more memory options, the Micromax Canvas A100 could be a good buy.

On the other hand, if you want more software features preinstalled on the device and better camera optics, you can choose the Karbonn A18 smartphone.
