Leading smartphone manufacturer in India, Micromax created tides of excitemnt with the launch of Canvas HD. The phablet with high-end specs made record sales right on its first day of availability and went out of stock as over 9000 units were pre-ordered on the same day.
However, it seems like Micromax is facing a hard time to deliver the units of Canvas HD to those who ordered it. Gizbot has already reported that the handet will be coming back to stocks and on retail availability from the end of this month.
In the meantime, a Twitter user @modibimal has tweeted that Canvas HD will receive a price hike of Rs 14,499, but those who have already pre-order the phablet will get it at the same price of Rs 13,999. Further, the user has also mentioned that the consumers will get a carry case worth Rs 700 for free.
Already, Micromax is heading in tough competition with other market dominators such as Apple and Samsung in the tablet segment and now, it seems like the company is also planning to the same in the smartphone space. By launching Canvas HD with advanced specs such as HD display, quad core processor and more, Micromax has stepped into direct rivalry with the market leaders.
Currently, iPhone 5 is the most popular smartphone apart from Samsung Galaxy series. Apple has announced the EMI scheme for iPhone 5, thereby letting consumers who cannot afford to spend hefty amounts for smartphone purchases can also buy the new Apple smartphone. Under this scheme, Apple will offer iPhone 5 for a downpayment of Rs 16,990 and then pay Rs 2,376 per month for a year while the price tag of iPhone 5 starts at Rs 45,900.
It clear that consumers can buy an Apple product with much brand value and superior spec by paying Rs 16,990, which falls in the similar price bracket as the Canvas HD costing Rs 14,499. Hence, can Apple pose a threat to the sales of Micromax Canvas HD?
