Micromax Smarty A68 vs Nokia Lumia 510: Which Entry-Level Smartphone Is Worth a Purchase?
As the demand for low cost and reasonably priced smartphones is on the rise, several global as well as local handset manufacturers have started making such smartphones in order to secure a significant share of the budget conscious Indian smartphone market. Micromax, the leading tablet vendor in India, which is eyeing to become the the leading seller of smartphones has quietly launched an Android smartphone in India. The new Micromax offering dubbed as Smarty A68 is priced at Rs 6,499 and is available on online retailer sites including Saholic and Flipkart.
In order to prove that the budget smartphones not necessarity have to be based on Android OS, Nokia recently launched Lumia 510, the cheapest Windows Phone based handset available in India at a price of Rs 10,099. Lumia 510 has replaced Lumia 610 priced at Rs 12,999 as the cheapest WP smartphone.

Dimensions & Weight: While the dimensions and weight of Micromax offring remain undisclosed, Lumia 510 carries a dimension of 120.7 x 64.9 x 11.5mm and weighs in at 129 grams.
Display: In this segment, both the handsets boast a 4 inch display capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.
Processor: When it comes to processor, Smarty A68 scores more with a 1GHz processer as compared to the 800MHz single-core processor in Lumia 510.
Operating System: This is the most interesting segment of the comparison as Micromax Smarty A68 is based on Android 4.0 ICS and Lumia 510 us based on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS, which is upgradeable to Windows Phone 7.8,
Talking about software features, Windows Phone 7.8 OS will have a new Start screen look and feel, familiar to that in Windows Phone 8, Ringtone maker app to selected markets to create a personal ringtone, Contact share app updated to support sharing over Bluetooth in addition to SMS and email and more.
Camera: On the camera optics front, both Smarty A68 and Lumia 510 pack a 5MP rear camera. However, both the handsets lack a front facing camera for video calling.
Storage: In terms of storage, Smarty A68 comes with 2GB internal storage, 512MB RAM and a micro SD card slot fot expandable memory support up to 32GB.
On the other hand, Lumia 510 packs 4GB internal storage and 256MB RAM.
Further, though the Nokia offering lacks a micro SD card slot supporting expandable storage, it has 7GB SkyDrive cloud storage free.
Connectivity: On the data connectivity front, both the handsets offer Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and micro USB 2.0 features.
Battery: Smarty A68 is powered by a 1,600 mAh Li-ion battery delivering 5 hours talktime and 144 hours standby, whereas, Lumia 510 is loaded with a 1,300 mAh BP-3L battery delivering 6.2 hours talk time and 653 hours standby.
Price: Micromax Smarty A68 is priced at Rs 6,499 and Lumia 510 is priced at Rs 10,099.
Verdict
Being entry-level smartphones, both Micromax Smarty A68 and Nokia Lumia 510 lack some significant elements like front camera, but, it is not a feature that all the smartphone users will want. Other than these minor downsides, both the handsets are packed with decent specs.
Speaking of Micromax Smarty A68, the handset comes loaded with Hook Up, the instant messaging application from Micromax, Aisha voice assistant feature and more. Moreover, the handset comes with dual SIM support.
At the same time, Lumia 510, though the handset lacks a micro SD card slot for expandable memory options, it comes with preloaded apps including Nokia Maps, Nokia Transport and Nokia Drive navigation apps. Also, Nokia is offering bundling three-months of unlimited Nokia Music and Nokia MixRadio subscription with the smartphone.
Consumers who are concerned on the price of the handset, Android user experience, expandable storage options, dual SIM support, and on increased battery backup can opt for Micromax Smarty A68.
On the other hand, those who are concerned on Windows Phone user experience, free cloud storage facility and different color options including red, cyan, yellow and more can choose Nokia Lumia 510.
Finally, the buying decision is left to the consumers as it is based on which operating system they like to use and on the price of the handset.
