Micromax X230 Review

Micromax X230 Review
The mobile phone market in India is all about extremes. There are models poles apart. On one hand you still have basic handsets that provide nothing more than calling or answering calls, sending and receiving messages, storing data, listening to music and playing around with some ringtones. On the other end you have handsets that are closer to smartphones or PDAs, with their own operating system, 3G Internet browsing capabilities, touch screen and myriad entertainment options.

Caught in between are models such as Micromax X230. These mobile phones are really stylish and fashionable and would suit students well, and even some professionals who don't need videoconferencing capabilities or other advanced features. These phones appear a lot closer to mobile phones in the lower end of spectrum. But they offer much more than merely making calls and sending SMS.

They have these basic features plus a few more entertainment-oriented options such as music and photo and video viewing capabilities. The range of games and the polyphonic ringtones (with options to add more) make life a lot more interesting for users. The WAP Internet browsing experience is also a welcome feature. This, coupled with the price in India range of Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2000 makes this segment hugely popular and account for a large chunk of mobile handset sales in India.

Micromax X230 is another product from the leader in GSM dual SIM mobile handsets. The mobile comes with a black finish with red inserts along the sides and a square red-bordered shortcut key on top of the standard keyboard dominating the front. It has a bar form factor and looks reasonably chic overall. It has a screen resolution of 144x175 pixels and a 2.0-inch color TFT display.

For capturing your favorite moments or something that's caught your eye you have a 0.3-megapixel VGA camera at the back that helps you take snaps with reasonable clarity. The images you snap and the videos you take with the camera can be stored in the 8GB expandable memory that is offered apart from the internal memory.

The usual entertainment features are on offer such as FM radio and pre-loaded games. Micromax X230 also features multi-format music player and a video player. So you've got so much to have fun with, but there's more. The WAP browser can help you surf through the Internet as well.

For connecting with other devices Micromax X230 features Bluetooth. GPRS is also offered. The 1200 mAh Li-ion battery offers standby time of 792 hours and a talk time of up to 5 hours. Micromax X230 is available for a price in India of around Rs. 1850.
