Micromax Yu Powered by CyanogenMod Set to Launch on December 18

Indian Brand Micromax had announced an exclusive partnership with CyanogenMod few weeks back, becoming the sole manufacturer of CynaogenMod powered devices in the Indian market. Micromax has already sent the invitations for the launch of YU smartphones, which is set to happen on December 18.

Amazon India has disclosed that the YU smartphones will be exclusively available on their website, Amazon.in. As of now there is no information available about the specifications or features, it has been speculated that the phone comes with security features and highly customizable user interface.

The invite also revealed much about the phone except the date of release. The press too got an invitation stating that "Since time travel is not an option, block your dates for 18/12/2014."

We can also observe, that due to the exclusive partnership with Micromax, CyanogenMod plans on dumping OnePlus with its updates in the future. The company clearly stated that the OnePlus One units sold in the Indian market won't receive OTA updates any further. In a blog post the company said, "If a user in India purchased an OnePlus One global device from a foreign store, will be allowed to receive our OTA firmware updates. However, this excludes OnePlus One regional devices sold directly in India. We are committed to our exclusive partnership in India with Micromax, which will be launching its first Cyanogen OS device under their new YU brand."

CyanogenMod has announced its upcoming theme app that will debut in the Micromax Yu, which act as a store for users to download and browse various themes.
