Motorola Moto G: OS, Apps and Performance

Motorola, over the past few years, may have limited itself and its products to the U.S.-based customers, but now with its global adventure up and running, the company is aiming for a serious spot among the big players, starting with the Indian domestic market.

And the first step it has taken to ensure that is by offering the latest Android KitKat update. Although the company is offering Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, which is a step behind the latest Android 4.4 KitKat software, first arriving with the Nexus 5, it's still a great offering considering more than half of the devices in that price range don't even think about sporting the latest Android platform. However, to remove any kind of disappointment or dissatisfaction related to that, the company has made the device upgrade-ready to run the KitKat v4.4.

Apart from sporting the usual Moto G software, there's also the presence of Vanilla Android 4.3 which quite an easy to use and clean-looking operating system. Users opting for the device will be treated to Google's standard Android apps, and this includes the latest addition Quickoffice - a mini Microsoft Office-style suite that lets you do anything from preparing a written piece to creating presentations and spreadsheets for office use. And as expected, every thing's synced in with Google Drive.

Another things that might be nibbling you away is whether the custom interface is good enough. Let us tell you that the Moto G doesn't really have a custom interface and that makes the device's performance better. And don't bother yourself thinking about how a 1GB RAM will suffice all your needs, since it will be more than enough.

The Moto G, although being a quad core phone, provides a low-to-mid range processor by sporting a Snapdragon 400 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz. And while that may not sound powerful against the likes of other top of the table devices, but for a specified price, that's more than you can bargain for.

Keeping aside all the apps that you will find for the device in the Google Play store, the device comes packed with two extra apps - Motorola Assist and Motorola Migrate. While the Motorola Assist offers you a number of options like cross-referencing your Google calendar entries and turning the phone silent at night, the Motorola Migrate allows you to drag text messages contacts, media and settings from your old phone to your new one. Pretty Cool, huh?
