Motorola Razr i: Intel's Brainchild with 2GHz Processor, ICS And 8MP Camera Releases Today
In August, Motorola Mobility and the chip maker Intel announced their partnership during the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 and recently they sent out invites for a press conference on September 18 in London, hinting at the unveil of a new smartphone.
In the past few weeks, several reports from numerous sources confirmed that Motorola's new smartphone will have an edge-to-edge display and LTE network support.
Hence, following the Indian handset vendor, Lava, who unveiled the first Intel smartphone – Xolo 900 in April – Motorola the US based smartphone manufacturer in London today, unveiled its first handset of its multi-year, multi-device partnership with the chip maker. The new handset dubbed as Razr i is powered by the Intel Atom processor and it is a revamped version of Droid Razr M, which was unveiled at an event on September 5 alongside Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx.
Though both the handsets look alike from on the exterior, however, the Intel Medfield processor in the Razr i is claimed to have a maximum clock speed of 2GHz.
Commenting at the launch event, Jim Wicks, senior vice president, Consumer Experience Design, Motorola Mobility was quoted saying “Together with Intel, we’re redefining what people can expect from a mobile device. A camera that launches in an instant, Web pages that load blazingly fast and a device that’s the perfect balance of screen size and fit in hand. RAZR i delivers just that when you put an Intel-fast processor in a beautifully designed phone and add in extra long battery life.”
Erik Reid, general manager, Intel’s Mobile and Communications Group was quoted saying, “Motorola RAZR i with Intel Inside naturally blends together the value propositions of high performance Intel Architecture and great battery life, Motorola Mobility device innovation and the Android platform. Intel’s goal is to provide compelling technology options that translate into great user benefits and experiences. RAZR i is a great proofpoint in the collaboration and we’re thrilled to be working with Motorola to bring this edge-to-edge experience enhanced with Intel Inside to people around the world.”
Key Specifications
Form Factor: Boasting a dimension of 122.4 x 60.9 x 8.4 mm and weighing around 127 grams, the Razr i has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 960 x 540 pixel resolution. While the display is protected with the Corning Gorilla Glass to avoid both scratches and scrapes, the back of the handset is made of DuPont KEVLAR splash-guard coating.
Processor: Moto Razr i will come powered by an Intel Atom single-core processor clocked at 2GHz with hyper-threading support along with 1GB RAM.
OS: Motorola RAZR i is flavored with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and will be upgradeable to Android 4.1 Jelly. Bean OS)
Camera: The new Motorola handset will have an 8 megapixel camera that can start under 1 second and take 10 pictures in less than one second, 1080p HD video shooting capability, a front-facing 0.3 megapixel shooter for making video calls and more.
Memory Capacity: The Razr i handset will house an 8GB internal storage, further it will come accompanied with a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB.
Connectivity: The handset comes bundles with features like Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11 Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC functionality, DLNA capability, micro USB 2.0.
Battery: According to the company, the Razr i will come loaded with a 2,000 mAh Li-ion battery, which is claimed to offer a long battery backup of up to 20 hours.
Other Features: Motorola’s exclusive Guide Me app is preloaded with interactive, swipe-by-swipe tutorials for tons of features. Also, the unique Motorola's interactive Circles Widget allows quick access to notifications, weather, time and more.
Price & Availability: The black version of Motorola Razr i will be released in selected markets in Europe and Latin America including Germany, UK, France, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina starting October while the white version of the smartphone will be coming later. However, there is information about the price and specific release date.
