10 Key Differences Between HTC One A9 and Apple iPhone 6s

HTC announced the much-rumored One A9 smartphone, the company's first 'A' series handset and the first non-nexus smartphone to run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system out of the box.

HTC claims that the One A9 will be a tough competition to the rival Apple's iPhone 6s. While, the look of both smartphone might look familiar, but there are quite a few difference between HTC One A9 and the iPhone 6s.

HTC One A9 vs Apple iPhone 6s: Design

At the first glance, the One A9 look like an iPhone 6s with HTC logo. Both comes with plain metal body with antenna lines along on top and bottom and both have slightly rounded corners. The thickness of both devices are almost identical, the iPhone 6s measures 7.1 mm, while the One A9 at 7.26 mm. Interestingly, both weights exactly the same at 143 grams.

The HTC One A9 has a slightly bigger display than the iPhone 6s. The One A9 sports a 5 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels, at 441 ppi pixel density and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection.

While, the Apple iPhone 6s comes with a 4.7 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD with a resolution of 750x1334 pixels, at 326 ppi pixel density and comes with 3D Touch display, Ion-strengthened glass, oleophobic coating.

The HTC One A9 is powered by an 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 617 chipset with four cores with clock speed of 1.5GHz and four running at 1.2GHz and also comes with Adreno 405 GPU. On the other hand, the iPhone 6s comes with Apple's latest A9 chipset and is powered by dual-core 1.84Ghz processor paired with PowerVR GT7600 GPU.

The HTC One A9 comes in two models and the processor is paired with 2GB or 3GB of RAM depending upon the storage variant, while the Apple iPhone 6s comes in three models and all three variants comes with 2GB of RAM.

The HTC One A9 is available in two storage variants: 16GB and 32GB. Both models has the support to expand memory using a microSD card up to 2TB. While, the Apple iPhone 6s is available in three storage models: 16/64/128 GB, but there is no option to expand memory using external microSD card.

HTC One A9 vs Apple iPhone 6s: Operating system

The operating system is the biggest difference between these phones, as while one runs Android the other runs iOS. However, Both runs on brand new versions of their respective operating systems, in fact HTC One A9 is the first non-Nexus smartphone to run on the Android Marshmallow.

To be more specific, the HTC One A9 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with HTC Sense UI on top, while the iPhone 6s runs on iOS 9.

The HTC One A9 flaunts a 13 megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization with support to 1080p video, autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash and 4 megapixel front-facing camera.

On the other hand, the iPhone 6s has a 12 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization with support to 2160p video phase detection autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, face/smile detection, HDR and has 5 megapixel front-facing camera.

The highlighted features of the One A9 is its fingerprint scanner placed on the home button. While, the iPhone 6s also comes with fingerprint scanner on the home button.

HTC One A9 vs Apple iPhone 6s: Battery

The HTC One A9 is packed with 2150mAh battery which is claimed to juice the device up to 16 hours of talk time, 12 hours of HD video playback or 60 hours of audio playback. The HTC One A9 supports Quick Charge 2.0 for faster charging.

While, the iPhone 6s is packed with 1715mAh battery with claimed to provide 14 hours of talk time, 11 hours of HD video, or 50 hours of audio.

HTC One A9 vs Apple iPhone 6s: Verdict

The HTC One A9 is not a flagship device, but it is surely the best Android alternative to the iPhone 6s. The design of both smartphone are surprisingly similar and features familiar specs like fingerprint scanner, similar camera and sharper and brighter display.
