Chinese OEM Gionee will soon be adding a new device to its portfolio dubbed the S Plus. The 5.5 inch phablet sports a USB Type C port and is expected to be launch this week with a price tag of Rs 16,999.
The alleged device sports a 5.5 inch HD (1280x720p) AMOLED display up front which is protected by a Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood is a 1.3GHz octa core SoC, which is apparently believed to be none other than the Mediatek 6753. This complimented by a Mali T720 GPU and 3GB of RAM.
In terms of storage the Gionee S Plus comes with a 16GB of onboard storage along with an option for memory expansion via MicroSD. The device further comes with a 13MP rear AF camera along with a single LED flash. This is complemented by a 5MP FF selfie snapper. To power the octa core phablet is a 3150mAh Li-Poly battery which is expected to last through a day and half of heavy to moderate usage.
The USP of the Gionee S Plus however is the USB Type C port which in turn comes with easy handling capabilities and fast charging support. Sadly, though the Type C port still uses USB 2.0 - similar to the OnePlus 2.
As expected from a Gionee device, the S Plus runs on the company's latest Amigo UI 3.1 on the top of Android Lollipop 5.1.1. The mid-range phablet supports 4G LTE bands and comes with dual SIM support. Gionee has paid attention to details while crafting as the S Plus. It comes in three coloured battery covers - gold, blue and white - which in turned has a metallic finish to give it a premium and upmarket feel. Despite including a large battery the device is also sufficiently slim at 7.5mm.
The alleged device will go on sale across India via brick mortar stores next week at price tag of Rs 16,999. Presently the device is available in select offline stores in Rajasthan.
