Over the past few decades, Huawei has accumulated a leading number of overseas patents, which has made it a strong contender. As per the company, Huawei Consumer BG had more than 9,000 global patent applications, including more than 2,000 patents obtained in China and 1,100 in overseas areas like Europe, America and other regions, by 2015.

The company invests heavily on its R&D center, and has touted its yearly research and development budget to be equivalent to 10 percent of its revenue, which is proportionally higher than many of its rivals in the industry.
According to the statistics, in 2015, Huawei invested a massive sum of $9.2 billion, which is roughly 15% of its sales revenue, into the R&D of new technology, new products and wireless communication standards. The kind of invest Huawei made clearly shows the company's seriousness towards its consumers.

By the end of 2015, Huawei acquired a total of 50, 377 patents throughout the world, which has further grown in 2016. These applications and grants of patents indicate the company's incidence and location of innovation.

The company's increase in the revenue of the mobile telecom carrier network business group is related to Huawei's wide layout and exploration for the 4G markets in 2014. At present, Huawei has built more than 154 4G networks, representing market share of 46% among over 300 LTE networks worldwide and ranking the first in the world in the number of networks built.
Future strategies and plans:
For a long time, Huawei has kept innovation in key and latest technology field as well. It is reported that apart from the enhancement in R&D in 4G technology field at present, Huawei is also planning to invest at least 600 million Dollars for R&D of 5G technology before 2018.
