Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL to feature infrared iris scanner! [Report]
Leaks and rumours are rife that Microsoft is working on two high-end smartphones, including the Lumia 950, codenamed Talkman, and Lumia 950 XL codenamed Cityman. While the phones are yet to be announced officially, several reports have given out the specs details of the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL smartphones. Now, a new report leaks the photos and specs details of these upcoming Lumia smartphones, and suggests that these will sport an infrared iris scanner for biometric authentication.

To recap, the Talkman and Cityman smartphones were earlier rumored to be called the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, but a recent report cleared that Microsoft is skipping the x40 name to switch to x50 instead. Though, the company is said to be still working on the mode name.

As per Windows Central report, the iris scanner will essentially be used for facial recognition, which is believed to be a part of Windows Hello feature in Windows 10 OS. Report also mentions that Microsoft's Lumia 950XL, the bigger variant of Lumia 950, will support Surface Pen technology. In addition to that the Lumia 950 XL will support a new smart cover with circular cut out to offer easy access to notifications.
The report also features alleged photos of Lumia 950 XL, which The Verge claims to have independently confirmed to be almost accurate.
Talking of specs, it is believed that Microsoft Lumia 950 will have a 5.2-inch QHD OLED display with 1440x2560 pixel resoution. It will be powered by a 64-bit hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage which will be expandable via microSD card. The phone will house a 20-megapixel PureView rear camera and a 5-megapixel wide-angle front-facing camera. In addition to that, there will be an infrared iris scanner for Windows Hello, and connectivity support for USB Type-C. You may also see Qi wireless charging capability and a 3000mAh removable battery on-board.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL, on the other hand, will come with a bigger display at 5.7-inch with the same resolution, and a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 SoC. It will also sport similiar resolution camera, however will additionally get a triple-LED flash for rear snapper, and a 1-mm silver ring inside the circumference of the camera pod. It will house a 3300mAh removable battery. Rest of the features will remain same as the Lumia 950.
Both handsets are likely to be available in Matte White or Black Polycarbonate colour options.
While it was uncertain that when will the phones get launched, a new report suggests the unveiling of the phones to happen at IFA in September. According to the report, Microsoft will bring the phones on shelves for sale in October or November. According to The Verge, the phone will not be sold through US carrier Verizon.
