Microsoft today sent out invites regarding their launch event scheduled on the 6th of October. As expected Redmond giants are scheduled to launch two new Lumia devices at the event.
Even the press invite states the same - "We have some exciting news to share about Windows 10 devices". There's also a word on the background that Microsoft may unveil their Surface Pro 4 and an upgrade to the Microsoft band at the same event.
The two Lumia phones set to be the star of the show on the 6th pack some great specifications under the hood. Rather it is a massive upgrade from most Windows phones we have seen in the past, especially in the hardware department.
With Microsoft fully focusing on flagship Windows device, by leaving the budget section to hardware partners, we are expecting some phenomenal devices from the company in the recent past. Hopefully the Lumia 950 and the 950XL are just the start to the slew of flagship Windows phones.
The Lumia 950 features a 5.2 inch QHD (2560x1440) OLED display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC under the hood. The QHD display is first among Windows Phones and so it the 3GB of RAM, the device is said to pack. For storage the 950 will comes with 32GB onboard and 128GB via MicroSD expansion slot.
Further one can always use Cloud Storage services bundled in with Windows. The camera department is quite beefy too just like many flagship Lumia devices. It uses a 20MP rear sensor using Carl Zeiss Lens and dual LED flash.
On the front will be a 5MP front snapper along with an Iris (Infrared) Scanner equipped with Windows Hello. The battery of 3000mAh will support Qi Wireless fast charging too. In another first, the 950 and 950XL will become the first Windows phone to feature a USB Type C port.
On the other hand the 950XL will come with a lager 5.7 inch display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa core in place of the hexa core SD808.
The camera has been given some premium treatment too in terms of triple LED flash, one seen in the Lenovo Vibe Shot. Plus there is a metal rim round the sides of the camera module. The battery will also be larger at 3300mAh. The rest of the specs would be the same.
Not much is know about the Surface Pro 4 as now other than the fact that it might feature Intel latest 6th gen Skylake chips. The Band 2 on the other hand will come with improved design and aesthetics.
The Microsoft Windows 10 devices event starts at 10:00 am EDT (7:30 PM IST) on Tuesday, October 6th. There will also be live stream for the event here.
