Despite the inception of large touchscreen devices the popularity of flip phones is still on the high in China and South Korea. So much so that even Samsung is being reported to bring out a flip version of their present flagship - Samsung Galaxy S6 Clamshell.
This isn't the first time for Samsung though. Previously the company have tried their hands on a 'smart' flip phone. Very recently a report emerged stating that the company is working on a device dubbed the Galaxy Golden 3.
However, the Samsung S6 Clamshell has passed TENAA certification in China and is expected to launch soon. Though the exact name of the alleged device SM-W2016 isn't known as of yet, the folks at SoftPedia report that it will be called the Samsung Galaxy S6 Clamshell. And why not?
Just like the Samsung Galaxy S6, the alleged flip device dubbed the S6 Clamshell packs a 64bit octa core Exynos 7420 SoC with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage! Furthermore it comes with the same 16MP camera capable of recording 4K videos and a 5MP front facing selfie snapper, as seen on the Samsung Galaxy S6.
As expected from a flip phone, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Clamshell comes with a smaller 3.9 inch SUPER AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280x768 pixels - which is slightly higher than HD (1280x720p). Moreover it comes with alpha-numeric aka. T9 keyboard.
The SM-W2016 aka Samsung Galaxy S6 Clamshell which cleared TENAA very recently comes with Android Lollipop 5.1.1 out of the box. The device weighs at around 206 grams and measures at 120.4x61.5x15.1mm.
Nevertheless there's no doubt that the SM-W2016 is a high end device but whether or not it will be called the Samsung Galaxy S6 Clamshell is still debatable. However one thing is for sure it would be priced rather high i.e. upwards of 4999 Yuan equivalent to Rs 50,000 approx. Chances of Samsung bringing this phone to India is however quite less.
