'Samsung today officially unveiled the price of their all new S6 Edge+ today in India. Priced at Rs 57,990 the device falls in direct competition with the premium segment king iPhone 6 Plus. But can this Android wannabe dethrone iOS king?
Build and Design:
The company have gone for two different materials for building their flagship devices. While the Cupertino giant had opted for an aluminium body for the iPhone, 'Samsung went for the existing dual glass design language of the Galaxy S6.
Nevertheless on comparing both device our vote goes for the S6 Edge for its sturdy build. Somehow it difficult to trust the iPhone built especially after the bendgate incident. iPhone 6 Plus is on the slimmer side though.
Under the hood:
The first major difference that overlooks the specs sheet is the RAM. The Galaxy S6 Edge + comes with a 4Gb of RAM as compared to the 2GB on the iPhone. Next comes the chipset and here two 'Samsung beats the Apple hands down. With the octacore 7420 SoC donning the S6 Edge+, the 1.4GHz dual core A8 SoC on the Apple iPhone 6 Plus looks petty - at least that's the case on paper.
In terms of performance though, the devices are a near match. With the iPhone running on the ever so light iOS, the performance difference can hardly be felt.
The iPhone have always been known for their 'Retina' display. But with the inception of the recent Quad HD displays in Android devices, the Retina displays look rather passé. While the S6 Edge+ features a 5.7 inch QHD (2560x1440) panel, the iPhone 6 Plus sports a 5.5inch FHD (1920x1080) panel.
Despite the bumped up resolution both the displays are equally capable in normal ready conditions.
Let's not delve into the Megapixel race, as if we do the Apple will get severly beaten by leaps and bound. Both cameras come with PDAF and OIS. The iPhone though lacks the capability of shooting 4K videos, unlike the S6 Edge+. Despite having a lower resolution unit, the USP of the Apple's camera lies in its sensor. With a larger sensor size, the camera is more sensitive to light and captures good amount of details in a dark space.
Nevertheless iPhone is definitely a great camera, but it fails to match up with the phenomenal S6 Edge+. Same applies for the front camera as the iPhone contains a smaller 1.2Mp unit as compared with 5MP seen on the Edge+.
It's a new tie in this department. The iPhone 6 Plus come with a 2915mAh battery as compared to the 3000mAh unit in the S6 Edge+. Expect a better on screen time from the Apple though solely because of its dual core processor and lower resolution display.
iPhone 6S comes with a Fingerprint sensor on the front. 'Samsung has also bundled in this sensor along with a number of goodies like Heart Rate Sensor, Pressure Sensor etc.
At the end of the day it boils down to personal preferences - iOS vs Android. Legs bypass that little debate as of now. But one thing is for sure - if you want a power packed Future Proof device then 'Samsung S6 Edge is for you!
