In the crowded smartphone market, it is important for smartphone players to bring unique features or add interesting design elements to their products, in order to stand out. Chinese smartphone vendor UMi has in past come up with interesting smartphones, with each of them targeted to cater to specific kind of customers.
After the launch of its affordable smartphone, UMi Iron, and the rugged phone, UMi Hammer S, the company has now come up with a new smartphone, dubbed the UMi Fair, in the low-range segment. The US of this phone is the presence of fingerprint ID, which is nothing we have not seen before, but for the first time on UMi phones.
Key specifications and features
Starting with its highlighted feature, the fingerprint sensor on the UMi Fair is placed at the back, which as per the company is more convenient and faster to use. The fingerprint ID is one of the latest fads amongst smartphone makers, though, we found it cumbersome to use on most of phones.
Anyway, UMi claims that the Fair comes with military grade hardware recognition with an intelligent self learning algorithm, for 99 percent accuracy. Also, the company says that the inner frame of the phone is made out of stainless steel for greater durability.
As for the display, the phone comes with a 5-inch HD display with 720p resolution, translating into pixel density of 294PPI. Taking of the chipset, the UMi Fair is powered with MediaTek MT6735 quad-core chipset paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which seems boring considering that now there are Android phone under Rs 5,000 or $100 with octa-core chipset and higher RAM. For camera enthusiasts, the UMi Fair features a 13MP primary shooter paired with a 2MP secondary snapper.
The phone measures in at 8.4mm in thickness and weighs about 120 grams. It houses a 2000mAh, which should roughly last a day, for the given specs.
In terms of connectivity options, the phone has support for 4G LTE Networks FDD (800/1800/2600) bands, apart from standard features like Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS/AGPS. As for software, the phone ships with Android 5.1 on-board.
Overall, the UMi makes for just another entry-level phone, however the fingerprint sensor gives it an edge over its rivals. The phone will compete with likes of the OnePlus 2 which also features a fingerprint ID, however has better specs on board. The UMi Fair, could however be priced lower!
