Xiaomi is all set to showcase its new custom UI version - the MIUI 7 - based on Android on August 19 at its global event in India. The company first announced the latest Xiaomi MIUI firmware alongside the launch of the RedMi Note 2 in China on August 13. The much-overhauled, new firmware based on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS packs in new features such as a unique roaming app, features an updated interface with new themes, and brings more on-board.
Here we list five interesting features that Xiaomi's latest Android skin for Mi phones embraces, and compel users to upgrade.
MI Roaming App
One of the most interesting features of the latest MIUI ROM is the Roaming app, which will allows you to opt for data packages available through the app without having to switch carriers while traveling abroad. Using this feature, you will be put in international roaming mode during international travels, and will be allowed to select apps that you want to run on data. The MI Roaming app will essentially work as a virtual SIM card for ease of use while travelling abroad.
Face-detection for Photos app
The native photos app in MIUI 7 now gets face-recognition feature, which can automatically sort images in Gallery and put them in separate folders. There is the People Tab in the Photos app that can sort photos by recognizing people's faces.
MIUI 7 gets a refreshed UI with 5 new official themes with designs tailored for male and female users. Apart from these, there will be several other free as well as paid themes that can be used to add to the look of the UI.
In order to keep data safe while handing the phone to a kid, Xiaomi has added a new Kids Mode that can help users control access to apps while kids use the phone.
Videos For Contacts
This feature will let users set videos for contacts, instead of a photo. So when a user gets a call, the phone will play the assigned video instead of playing regular ring tone and showing contact image.
