Nokia 808 PureView Gets a Price Cut: Available on Saholic at Rs 24,999

Nokia unleashed its whopping 41 megapixel phone, the Nokia 808 PureView, at the Mobile World Congress 2012 (MWC) this year and captured the spotlight as one of the most innovative smartphones of the year. The handset also became the next most talked about device after Apple’s new iPad at the Barcelona conference and even scooped the prestigious title of the “Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet” at the event’s award ceremony.

After being released in the world market, the handset recently came to Indian retail shelves boasting a price tag of Rs. 31,999. But now the smartphone is being offered in the nation at a discounted price. Yes! In an attempt to score more sales for the 808 PureView handset, Nokia has confirmed a price cut on the device and it has been listed at a price of Rs 24,999, which is almost 29% price cut from the original price at the online retailer Saholic site. As far as the specs are concerned, apart from the monster camera specs, the Nokia 808 PureView rocks only a 4-inch capacitive display with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels and 184 ppi pixel density. The handset also has a front facing VGA camera for video calling and is equipped a 16 GB internal memory capacity that can be expanded up to 48 GB with an external microSD memory card.

PureView further supports 14.4 Mbps download speed and 5.76 Mbps upload speed and features like Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, UPnP technology along with Bluetooth 3.0 version with A2DP, microUSB (MHL) 2.0 version and USB On-the-Go and NFC. The PureView will come loaded with Standard Li-Ion 1400 mAh (BV-4D) that gives up to 540 hours of standby time and up to 6 hours 50 minutes of talk-time in 3G.

Additionally, the handset will come packed with features like SNS integration, Accelerometer, proximity, compass, Stereo FM radio with RDS; FM transmitter active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic, HDMI port, MP3/WMA/WAV/eAAC+ player, MP4/H.264/H.263/WMV player, Voice command/dial, Document viewer, Video/photo editor, Predictive text input.

However, last but not the least, the handset has a 1.4GHz single core processor with a limited 512MB RAM, and of course the Symbian Belle.

Having Symbian Belle as the operating system of choice in this device is the main reason that will have buyers thinking twice whether to buy it or not. As Symbian OS is not the preferred choice for buyers these days, except for the die-hard Symbian fans who are blind to the fact that Symbian is not good, it will be phased out in favor of the Windows Phone OS.

It is possible that Nokia may bring some upgrades to the OS of the handset in the near future, but till the OS remains unchanged, the PureView 808 might not be a great deal for many buyers, who are looking at a combination of a great camera accompanied by a faster processor and the freshest operating system.

Although, buyers who are looking for a great camera phone, Nokia 808 PureView is the apt choice for you.
