Nokia Asha 502 Dual SIM: OS, Apps and Browser

Nothing beats an experience, yet we are living with a traditional frame set of mind. Agreed, the Asha 502 neither runs Google Android nor Windows Phone 8 OS. But wait a second, as we would like to clarify that Nokia's Asha software platform 1.1.1 is more closer to any modern day mobile OS. It is wrong to say that the Asha 502 Dual SIM falls under feature phone category.

Navigating the phone is damn simple, just like any other smartphone. Beneath the display, a touch sensitive capacitive back button is given. By swiping-down the menu at the top of the screen gives you information about Wi-Fi, data pack, Bluetooth and sound settings. It's similar to notification tray found on Android OS.

The home screens are divided into two parts: one of the screens show menu bars and the other shows your current status of activities ( Social networks, Alarm, Calendar, Calls, Installed apps, Messages, Music, New Photos, Notes, Radio, Recent Apps, Recent Web Pages, and Bluetooth Sharing). Choose what you want to see on your Fastlane, it's as simple as that.

These days a cell phone review is incomplete without giving credit to apps and app ecosystem. The Nokia Asha 502 Dual SIM comes preloaded with many big-ticket apps, notably, WhatsApp, Line, WeChat, The Weather Channel, Nokia Reader, Facebook, Twitter, and Nokia Nearby app. Beyond regular apps, the phone does support FM Radio and a dedicated e-mail client. Moreover, you are most welcome to download apps from Nokia store. There is a wide selection of apps waiting for you to be explored.

We were skeptical to open the native Nokia browser, since we thought it would crash several times during testing. Fortunately, that didn't happen in our tests. The preloaded browser is fast and zippy. That is all, we can tell you about the browser.

Nokia Asha 502 Dual SIM: Camera

The Asha 502 Dual SIM comes with an average 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with an included LED Flash. The camera didn't make us satisfied, though, we took a lot of images in the past week to in a hope to see some crazy result. The biggest challenge for us while talking pictures was the missing Auto Focus feature. It became tough to judge whether the object was in focus or not. Meanwhile, we are satisfied with picture shots captured outdoors.

The same cannot be said about close up pictures. The camera UI has nothing much to offer on the table. It would be better if Nokia brings an updated Camera user interface (UI) with some more matured settings through a firmware update. You will be disappointed when we will tell you that the phone does not come with a built-in front-facing camera. The video capturing is limited to 640 x 480 resolution.
