Nokia Lumia 920 Vs Samsung Ativ S: Windows Phone 8 Smartphone War Heats up
Following the big device launches lately, Samsung and Nokia have surprised Windows phone fans with the unwrapping of two most-awaited smartphones, Samsung Ativ S and the Nokia Lumia 920. According to numerous reports, it is certain that both the Window Phone 8 handsets will hit the market retail shelves in the fourth quarter of this year.
So which one will be right for you? Samsung Ativ S or Nokia Lumia 920? Here is a spec comparison between the two smartphones and how they will stack up against each other in the Windows war.
Display & Dimension: Lumia 920 boasts a measurement of130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7 mm and weighs around 185 grams while Ativ S boasts a bigger dimension including 137.2 x 70.5 x 8.7 mm and weighs lighter around 135 grams.
When it comes to the display, Lumia 920 houses a 4.5 inch IPS display with PureMotion HD+ technology. The capacitive touchscreen display has 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and 326 ppi pixel density approximately.
In comparison, Ativ S sports a massive 4.8 inch Super AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a pixel density of 306 ppi approximately. Also Samsung Ativ S display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
Processor: In this segment, both the smartphones incur equal scores with a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset, which comes with dual core 1.5GHz Krait processor and an Adreno 225 GPU.
Operating System: Both Lumia 920 and Ativ S run on the upcoming Windows Phone 8, the latest iteration of the Microsoft OS.
The Windows Phone 8 OS will have features like dynamic Live Tile Information, social network integration in the People hub, Skydrive and Office 365 documents synchronization, Facebook-events integrated calendar, visual voicemail, threaded email conversations support and more.
Camera: On the camera optics front, Lumia 920 has a better 8.7MP rear camera with LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging and more importantly the PureView branding. The handset also has a front facing 1.2MP camera for video calling.
On the other hand, Ativ S has an 8MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and geo-tagging features and a front facing 1.9MP camera for video calling.
Storage: Lumia 920 has 32GB internal memory and 1GB RAM while Ativ S has 16GB/32GB internal memory and 1GB RAM.
However, both the handsets lack a micro SD card slot for expandable memory.
Connectivity: On the connectivity front, both the handsets are packed with features such as HSDPA, HSUPA, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth with A2DP and EDR, micro USB 2.0 and USB on the go.
Battery: Lumia 920 is loaded with 2,000 mAh Li-ion battery, which the company claims will be offering 10 hours talk time and 400 hours standby while Ativ S is packed with a 2,300 mAh Li-ion battery.
Verdict
Both Lumia 920 and Ativ S have similar specifications, however the new Nokia handset has a better rear camera technology, as it comes with the PureView branding. Apart from that, both the Windows Phone 8 handsets support high resolution displays and multi-core processors to offer flawless user experience.
Moreover, the Lumia 920 is preloaded with several groundbreaking features including glove-friendly touchscreen and wireless charging, City Lens technology and more.
Meanwhile, if you are drooling to own one of these Windows Phone 8 handsets, you will have to wait for the release of the OS till October.
