As expected, Oppo today launched the R5 smartphone in India. Oppo R5 is touted among the slimmest smartphones in the market right now.
The smartphone, which just measure 4.8 mm in terms of thickness, beats the Gionee Elife S5.1, which was holding the Guinness world record of being the thinnest phone in the market. At just 4.75mm, Vivo's X5Max is currently the thinnest smartphone in the world.
The Oppo R5 comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD (1920x1080p) AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass 3 shield and offers 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 series Octa-core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt memory, a 13.0-megapixel main camera, and a 5.0-megapixel shooter on the front.
Software-wise, Oppo R5 will ship with ColorOS 2.0, which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system (OS). It's unclear whether the device will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the near future.
Notably, there's a 2000mAh battery fitted inside, and the device supports VOOC charging technology that is said to charge the battery from 0 to 75 % in around 30 minutes.
Other connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and Micro-USB. Unfortunately, there is no 3.5mm audio jack onboard, and users will have to use the bundled Micro-USB to 3.5mm audio jack adapter.
The Oppo R5 is priced at Rs. 29,990. The tech giant has also announced that the handset will be available for pre-booking, starting January 1, 2015.
"This phone has been developed with the end user in mind. We used cutting edge manufacturing techniques to create a phone that fits perfectly into the users' hands, and that feels incredible," said Tom Lu, CEO, OPPO India
