- Dated Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS
Panasonic P81- Performance
The Panasonic P81 is powered by a 1.7GHz true Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592 processor with Mali450-MP4 GPU, coupled with 1GB of RAM running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box. Our grilling testing showed the device exceeded expectations; there was in fact no lag when navigations through apps and opening applications. We tried " Benji Bananas" and "Real Racing 3" - as usual gameplay was smooth.
The Panasonic P81 retured a score of 28077 on the AnTuTu benchmark, and a similar score on Quadrant Standard ( 10572). In fact, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo ( now selling at Rs. 33,000) notched 27,113 ( AnTuTu) and 10466 (Quadrant Standard) respectively. The more expensive Samsung Galaxy S4, with a 1.6GHz Exynos octa processor and 2GB of RAM, scored 26022 ( AnTuTu) on the same test.
Panasonic P81- Software and UI
The Panasonic P81 runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean mobile OS. We know the dated OS may not excite you, but the company says they will update the Android 4.4 Kikat operating system sometime in July. Layred on top of that is Panasonic's completely redesigned custom user interface (UI), dubbed as Play-Life. Unlike Samsung's Touch-Wiz UI or LG's Optimus UI , the Panasonic's Play-Life UI is far more clean and less clutter free.
The lockscreen features a clock with date/time alongside gesture control features ( Unlock, SMS and Camera). You can disable Gesture Play to unlock the screen as well. The Gesture Play allows you to unlock the screen by drawing a pre-fixed pattern on the display. You can assign gestures for various apps ( including third-party) that you use frequently and just draw them on your screen and access all you favorite apps even without unlocking your smartphone.
Another aspect of Play-Life UI is none other than Multi-Play option. Multi-Play lets you complete multiple tasks at one screen. For instance, you can browse the web and watch a video at one go. It's very similar to Samsung's Multi-Window feature. And with the Play More fetaure, you can customize different themes, wallpaper, lockscreen, fonts, amongst others. Moreover, you can also give a new look to the app drawer. Depending upon your mood you can customize the app drawer with a fresh look everytime. You have the option to select a fancy new changeover effect from pre-bundled app list, which includes Random, Classic, Stack, Cube, Inner Cube, Fan, Turn, Snake, Wheel, and many more.
The Panasonic P81 also come with more advance File Manager. Unlike basic third-party file manager apps available on Google Play store, the P81's native file manager offer nice and simple user interface. The native file manager will let you clean unwanted files and bugs , and later notify current status and share the memory space available. Obviously, it is much more advance compared to basic file manger pre-loaded on the smartphones.
The P81 doubles as a music player right out-of-the-box. However, we did not like the supplied music player. By the way, the native music player lacks basic functionalities , such as a built-in equalizer and better search mechanism.
