Following the launch of LG curved battery for smartphone and smartwatches, South Korean tech titan, Samsung Electronics has taken the crown to launch the first curved OLED screen smartphone. Yes, its the new Samsung Galaxy Round, which has been launched in the Korean market at a price of 1.09 million won or USD $1,000 ( Rs 62,244 approximately).

Samsung Galaxy Round - Key Specifications

Well, the phone is getting rave reviews for its specifications, Samsung has incorporated all high end specs in Galaxy Round, found inside any decent big ticket phone. The device has a curved 5.7-inch Full HD display having 1080p resolution. Basically, it is similar to recently launched Galaxy Note 3, but its 7.9mm thick and weighs 154grams.

Further, the Galaxy Round has a 13-mega pixel rear facing camera with Auto Focus and LED Flash. Also a 2-mega pixel front facing camera.

Under the hood, as expected the Galaxy Round has a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM (expandable up to 64GB via a microSD card slot). The makers have added a 2,880mAh Li Ion battery enough to run for long hours. Android 4.3 Jelly Bean comes out of the box.

Samsung Galaxy Round - What's Different?

If you recall Samsung did manage to show off Youm, a prototype curved display, earlier this year at CES 2013. That was a concept but what you seeing here is a real device. The advantage of having a curved display is still to be tracked, but let's see how is Samsung Galaxy Round different from other high-end smartphones available in the market?

The most attractive part of the phone is naturally the huge curve. To take advantage of round integration experience, Samsung has added two great features: Roll Effect and Gravity Effect.

The Roll effect let you check "information such as date, time, missed call and battery easily when home screen is off". On the other hand, Gravity Effect helps you out to create "visual interaction with the screen by tilting the device".

Similarly, the Bounce UX enables users to control their music even when the display. Even when the track is going on, users can simply change the track by pressing on each sides of the screen.

Samsung Galaxy Round - Availability

Its availability is limited to South Korea currently, with no international release date revealed as of now, but a global availability is expected soon. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Round will be launched on SK Telecom in South Korea in "Luxury Brown" for 1.09 million won or USD $1000 (about Rs 62,244).

Samsung has lot of cash in hands, so the tech vendor can take risks. But, till now the advantages to have a curve display high-end phone is still unknown.

Do we really need a phone having curved display? LG is also in a process to launch similar smartphone in the coming days. Let us know in the comments section below and watch this space for more action.
