Samsung Galaxy S3 the flagship smartphone of the South Korean tech giant was recently in the news as it created a record in the sales achieving 30 million mark in less than six months of its release.
In a recent study conducted by Strategy Analytics, a research firm, Samsung Galaxy S3 has surpassed iPhone 4S, the Apple smartphone launch in October 2011 in Q3 2012 and has become the top selling smartphone in that period of time.
According to the study, Samsung has sold around 18 million S3 units in the third quarter alone while only 16.2 million units of iPhone 4S were sold. The strong sales of Galaxy S3 has helped Samsung in attaining a sales record of $7.3 billion operating profit in the time period between July to September this year.
Strategy Analytics Executive Director Neil Mawston was quoted stating that "Samsung's Galaxy S III has proven wildly popular with consumers and operators across North America, Europe and Asia. However, the Galaxy S III's position as the world's best-selling smartphone model is likely to be short-lived.”
Senior Analyst Neil Shah said, "The Galaxy S III captured an impressive 11 percent share of all smartphones shipped globally and it has become the world's best-selling smartphone model for the first time ever. A large touchscreen design, extensive distribution across dozens of countries and generous operator subsidies have been among the main causes of the Galaxy S III's success."

Have a look at five reasons for why Galaxy S3 is better than the Apple offering.
Galaxy S3 has a quad-core processor which runs with a clock having a speed of 1.4 GHz whereas iPhone 4S has a dual core processor running with a speed of 800 MHz. Furthermore, Galaxy S3 has 1GB RAM and iPhone 4S has only 512MB RAM.
Camera is a main aspect where S3 stands out better in comparison to iPhone 4S. Both the handsets have an 8MP rear camera, but, the bigger display of S3 offers better experience while capturing photos and recording videos. Further, the front camera of S3 is 1.9 MP while than in iPhone 4S is only 0.3MP.
iPhone 4S has a non-removable battery with 1,418 mAh battery delivering 8 hours of 3G talk time, 9 hours of Wi-Fi usage, 10 hours of video backup and about 40 hours of music playback, but taking all this into consideration an Apple iPhone has not been found to have a backup of over 24 hours. On the other hand, S3 has a 2,100 mAh removable battery giving at least 2 days life on average usage. Hence, Galaxy S3 need not be charged every day.
Both the handsets have similar internal storage options – 16GB/32GB/64GB respectively, however, Galaxy S3 comes with a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable storage, which is missing in iPhone 4S. Hence, consumers who like to have more content on their handset will definitely have an added advantage with Samsung's flagship smartphone.
