Samsung has reportedly declared that global sales of its Galaxy S3 smartphones has surpassed 20 million units in a little more than 3 months. Released in May, the successor of Galaxy S2 created a huge buzz attributed to its extensive software features and specifications. The release schedule was about three months ahead of new phone announcement by rivals Apple, Nokia and Motorola.
Samsung says brisk sales of the S3 are helping it retain dominance in the smartphone market. Strategy Analytics says Samsung overtook Apple in worldwide smartphone shipments in 2011.
The company is embroiled in legal tussles with Apple around the world over whether Samsung's mobile devices copied Apple products. The recent legal tiff between the two companies reveals further about the growing tension and competition between them. Lately, Apple added Samsung Galaxy S3 to the “copycat” list in a new complaint filed with a US Court.
However, according to Trip Chowdhry, the managing director of equity research at Global Equities Research, after the verdict in the Apple-Samsung patent trial was announced, people in the US rushed out to buy the Samsung Galaxy S3 as buyers feared that the verdict would ban sales of the hot selling device.
Talking about the Android heavyweight specs, Galaxy S3 features Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 processor which makes it comparatively faster than iPhone 4S, 4.8 inches of Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, Corning Guerilla Glass 2, TouchWiz UI and an 8 mega pixel camera and more.
All of these feature along with apt publicity by Samsung with its ‘Designed for humans’ campaign has helped the product to penetrate in the alien markets, something which has provoked the competition bone of Apple. Samsung is hopeful that the products sales will reach further heights before any sustainable competition arrives from its rivals.
