When everyone was concerned with Micromax Canvas 4, the South Korean giant quietly launched much awaited Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and Galaxy S4 Mini in India. Announced recently at London Event, these devices find place in the Indian market at an affordable price.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom costs consumer Rs. 29,990, while the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is priced at Rs.27,990. As informed by Samsung official, both devices will be available in India from July 15 onwards. GizBot previously informed you that the Samsung Galaxy S4 was spotted on Saholic and it could be available in the market in July. Now both handsets have been launched in the market. Hence, if you are looking of a handset upgrade, and confused which one is meant for you; it's time to compare these devices on the basis of specifications.
Display and Aesthetics
The Galaxy S4 Zoom and Galaxy S4 Mini are average looking handsets. Although, Samsung keep on using bendable plastic material still the original Galaxy S4 is much more sober looking. Coming back to Galaxy S4 Zoom, it is a different breed of handset. Samsung must have tool inspiration from Nokia 808 PureView to make this phone.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom weighs 208 grams and measures 15.4mm thick. That's lot, but if one considers large camera sensor and 10x zoom facility then it should be looked in a different angle all together. Remember Galaxy Camera? The Zoom ring on the rear back is the main USP of Galaxy S4 Zoom.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is a toned version of Galaxy S4 Zoom. It is thin and plain looking like any other Galaxy handset.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom comes with a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display having resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. The screen is no HD (720p). The phone could have been better, if Samsung used 720p HD panel. While the Galaxy S4 Mini also has a 4.3-inch qHD display. Nothing special here, if one sees the display size.
Processor, RAM and OS
They say processor is the sole of a smartphone. With Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, Samsung used 1.2GHz dual-core processor coupled with 1.5GB of RAM. Both devices carry same RAM. Even the internal memory stands at 8GB, which can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card.
The Galaxy S4 Mini comes with 1.7GHz dual-core processor. In terms of operating system, we already know that Samsung is a huge fan of Android. These phones are powered by the latest version of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Certainly, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is exceptionally better in handling images. The phone packs a 16-mega pixel camera sensor with 10X optical zoom along with optical image stabilization feature. This makes it different from other Android handsets. It is said that the phone is first in class with an optical zoom (24mm) lens. The device has different set of shooting modes: Best photo, Continuous shot, Best face, Kids shot, Landscape, Rich tone (HDR), Dawn, Snow, Macro, Food, Party/Indoor, Action freeze Panorama, among others. There's a 1.9-mega pixel front facing camera on the front.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S4 Mini has average camera - an 8-mega pixel rear facing camera and 1.9-mega pixel front facing camera. That's the main difference between Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and Galaxy S4 Mini.
Miscellaneous and Conclusion
GizBot has already mentioned the key difference between the Galaxy S4 Zoom and Galaxy S4 Mini. If phone battery is important for you? The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is stuffed with a 2,330 battery inside, while the S4 Mini has a 1,900mAh battery.
In the name of connectivity both devices have most of the known functions: 3G, 2G, Bluetooth, WI-Fi, NFC, A-GPS + GLONASS, among others.
If you are looking for a dedicated camera phone, Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is made for you. However, it is bulky and cumbersome to handle. But you are getting a fully fledged camera phone at Rs. 29,990. Sorry, Samsung -there is no need to make Galaxy S4 Mini. Neither the phone has a 13-mega pixel camera nor have Full HD display. It should be avoided.
