Rumors of a mini variant of flagship Samsung Galaxy S5 have been swirling for quite some time, but so far we're yet to receive any concrete facts of the device's existence. That might've finally changed, though, as some close-up shots that purportedly show the Galaxy S5 Mini have made their way online.
The alleged images and full specs sheet were sent by an anonymous tipster to SamMobile. Going by the images, the smaller version of the Galaxy S5 seem to be looking similar to its older brother. From the images, one can clearly see the Galaxy S5 Mini features the same rear-mounted heart-rate sensor and there's the fingerprint scanner too.
When opening the rear-back cover, you will see the same rubber gasket as the S5, which again confirms the S5 mini could be water-resistant. However, the lack of flaps covering the USB port does suggest it may not feature the IP67 rating, just like the Galaxy S5.
The report further sheds light on the phone's full specs sheet. Surprisingly, the Galaxy S5 Mini will not come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, rather an unannounced Exynos 3 Quad (Exynos 3470) chip with a quad-core 1.4 GHz processor with Mali-400 MP4 GPU with 1.5 GB of RAM, could be found under the hood.
According to the source, the upcoming device is expected to have a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. On the imaging front, the phone may come with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with Full HD 1080p recording , alongside a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter. The S5 Mini will be seen running on Android 4.4 Kitkat.
So far, there's no word when Samsung plans to release the Galaxy S5 Mini into global handset market. The South Korean giant has already introduced its long kept secrets: the Galaxy S5 Active and the Galaxy K Zoom, so keeping the trend in mind, the mini version of Galaxy S5 Mini should be out sooner than later.
