Technology is always on the move, and in recent years it has sort of amplified itself on to a stage from where it can only but go up. And that sort of technology has primarily made its presence felt in the mobile and handheld segment with more and more new devices arriving almost every day.
And in a similar fashion, two devices that have arrived to further amplify the presence of that technology in recent times is the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia Z2.
As far as the Samsung-made Galaxy S5 is concerned, all the die hard Samsung fans are already aware of the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to go on sale across the globe on April 11. and with the device in bound, carriers and retailers all over the world are now making the necessary preparations for the smartphone's arrival.
The Sony-made Xperia Z2 handset, on the other hand, is also awaiting a launch date which is probably happening in the end of March. So users can expect to see both the smartphones placed side by side in store shelves within the next couple of months.
However, while the arrival of both the devices in the same time frame sounds like quite an exciting prospect, if given a chance to buy, which one of them will you look to go for? Let's take a look at both the devices with all their specifications and features and let's see where they stand against each other in the race.
There's not much to choose from in this respect since both devices run on the Google-made Android mobile operating platform. Moreover, both the devices can be obtained running the latest Android KitKat offering out of the box.
Display and Dimensions
The Samsung Galaxy S5 sports a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen, while rendering 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution. The device's overall dimensions measure up to 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm, and weighs in at 145 grams.
The Sony-made Xperia Z2, comparatively, comes with a slightly more 5.2-inch IPS LCD capacitive display having the same resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, and weighs in at 163 grams.
The Sony Xperia Z2, in terms of camera, offers a 20.7-megapixel primary camera with autofocus and LED flash, with a pixel resolution of 5248 х 3936 pixels. There's also a 2.2-megapixel camera at the front.
The Samsung Galaxy S5, on the other hand, sports a lesser 16-megapixel primary camera, sporting a pixel resolution of 5312 x 2988 pixels, with autofocus and LED flash. The device also has a secondary 2-megapixel camera on board that's more than enough for conducting video chats.
As far as the in-device powers are concerned, both the devices, going by their builds, have decent hardware specifications to offer that are capable of powering the devices.
While the Samsung Galaxy S5 is equipped with a Octa Core Processor Adonis Prime2 (Quad 1.9GHz + Quad 1.3GHz) + XMM6360, its Sony counterpart powers up the Xperia Z2 via a slightly lesser 2.3 GHz quad core processor with the similar Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset.
Storage and RAM
The Samsung-made Galaxy S5 offers 2GB of RAM while offering the device in 16 GB and 32 GB internal memory variants. Moreover, there's the option to expand the device's memory up to 128 GB as an external microSD slot for additional memory has been provided.
The Xperia Z2, in this respect, also offers a greater 3GB of RAM although arriving only in a 16 GB internal memory variant. And similar to the S5, this device also has the option to expand the device's memory up to 128 GB with an external microSD slot present.
While the Xperia Z2 comes sporting a massive 3200 mAh battery, the Samsung-made Galaxy S5 juices up the KitKat-powered device via a slightly lesser 2800 mAh battery.
While the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be available in India at a price of around Rs 51,000 to Rs 53,000 depending on the different variants, the Xperia Z2 is yet to be priced in the sub-continent.
The biggest hurdle that the Galaxy S5 has in this race is its price factor that will surely make few of the eye brows lift if considering buying the device.
And that's because no everyone is open to the idea of a smartphone that will cost more than 50k. However, given the kind of features and specifications, with all the health features included, it seems like the S5 has been priced somewhat fairly.
The Xperia Z2, on the other hand, is yet to get an official price tag. And with its features and specifications on offer, there could be a chance that if the company decided to put a price tag to the device that's less than 50k, then we could surely have a close match on our hands. But only time will tell as to who gains the upper hand in this high-profile race.
