Galaxy S6: Can Samsung's Biggest Experiment Win the Race Against iPhone 6 And Other Heavyweights

Earlier this month, both Samsung and HTC unveiled their respective flagship devices, but which one is the best? The HTC One M9 is expected to go on sale in India sometime later this month, while the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will be made available from April 10.

Interestingly, Samsung is going to launch its latest flagship device on March 24, where we'll get to know more about the device's price and exact retail availability.

Both the Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9 are premium devices. It's not like that these two fancy devices won't face any competition. The competition is rather tough. Apple iPhone 6, which made its debut in September 2014, is still going strong after breaking records set by the iPhone 5s.

Today, we take a quick look at how the Samsung Galaxy S6 stacks up against its biggest rivals in the high-end smartphone market.

Samsung announced the S6 and the S6 Edge, two monster handsets that are identical with one exception - the S6 Edge has the dual-edge LED screen around the bezel-less rounded side edges. The exterior is made with ultra-durable Gorilla Glass 4 front and rear panels and a polished metal frame. The bottom of the Galaxy S6 is similar to the iPhone 6 with drilled holes for the speaker, a central USB port and the headphone jack.

The HTC One M9 looks and feels very similar to its predecessor, but now has a scratch-resistant coating, machine-drilled buttons and a sapphire glass lens on the rear of the camera.

The iPhone 6 has a relatively small 4.7-inch screen, while the Galaxy S6 has a 5.1-inch Quad HD (1440x2560) Super AMOLED panel, with a staggering 577ppi pixel density against the 750x1334 iPhone 6's 326ppi. Meanwhile, the HTC One M9 HTC has the same 5-inch Full HD Super LCD 3 screen as seen on the original HTC One M8.

Samsung Galaxy S6 is powered by a 2.1GHz Octa Core Exynos 7420 processor, paired with 3 GB of RAM. HTC One (M9), on the other hand, is powered by a 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 MSM8994 64-bit octa-core processor and 3GB RAM.

Meanwhile, Apple iPhone 6 is powered by the A8 chip that features 64-bit architecture. The fitted chipset has a dual core processor and 1GB RAM inside.

All three smartphones come with 32GB of storage, and the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Apple iPhone 6 are also available in 64-and 128GB models. Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy S6 has lost its microSD support; the HTC One M9 still supports microSD(up to 128GB. As usual, the iPhone 6 doesn't support microSD card support.

The Galaxy S6 features a 16MP, f1.9 rear camera with optical image stabilization, and a 5MP front-facing shooter. HTC One (M9) offers a 20MP rear camera (BSI, sapphire glass lens) and a 4MP Ultrapixel front camera with super-wide angle lens. Meanwhile, the iPhone 6's 8MP rear -facing camera has already been considered one of the best camera-centric handset ever made. However, the front camera is limited at 1.2MP.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 both come with Android 5.0 Lollipop, which is the latest version of Google's Android mobile OS. They both run on the latest Android OS, the user experience will be altogether different since Samsung adds its TouchWiz user interface and HTC adds Sense 7.0 UI. The Apple iPhone 6 runs on the latest version of iOS mobile OS.

The Galaxy S6 comes with dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, A-GPS and an IR blaster. Also, add a working heart-rate monitor and the finger-print scanner. Samsung has also introduced its Samsung Pay mobile payment solution.

HTC offers standard connectivity options, but there's no fingerprint scanner, heart-rate monitor or mobile payments tech to compete against the likes of Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6.

The HTC has the higher-capacity battery at 2840mAh, whereas the Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with a 2550mAh. Both devices have non-removable batteries. The iPhone 6, on the other hand, has a non-removable 1810mAh battery.

Samsung has made an impact with the Galaxy S6. The device looks pretty interesting when compared to the iPhone 6 and HTC One M9. The company stands a good chance to convince buyers to get the Galaxy S6 over the Apple iPhone 6 and the HTC One M9.
