Samsung has already released a number of wearable devices in the form of smartwatches and fitness device called Gear Fit. The only thing that was missing in these products was the voice calling attribute.

Samsung's Next Smartwatch Gear Solo Could Make Calls Independently

However, a number of rumors and leaks that have appeared in the past have suggested that Samsung is working on yet another wearable device which would be called as the Gear Solo. This particular smartwatch would be a perfect device as it is reportedly said to come with a voice calling feature. Thus you can expect a SIM slot in the upcoming wearable product from Samsung.

Basically we are talking about a standalone smartwatch which doesn't need any parent device. According to WSJ, the Gear Solo will not only be able to make calls without needing a connection to a smartphone, but also feature other aspects of the smartphone like GPS, Bluetooth, a heart rate monitor, and a camera.

Samsung is reportedly in talks with major carriers in the U.S., South Korea, and Europe about launching the Gear Solo. Moreover, the Gear Solo was recently found to be under testing in India earlier this month. Thus chances of the device getting launch soon is pretty evident.

The probability of the watch having GPS might not be that high. However, as a Samsung official had earlier said, the battery technology for smartwatches doesn't allow for power-hungry features such as GPS, though it's possible the company has since found a way to get around the issue.

The upcoming Samsung Gear Solo will be most probably powered by company's proprietary Tizen OS which is said to help save battery life in the device.
