Samsung Rolls Out Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update for Galaxy S4 in India: What's Changed?

Samsung latest addition to its flagship Galaxy S series - Galaxy S5 will hit the markets in 150 countries on April 11. The fifth iteration of the super hit Galaxy series which comes stacked with Android 4.4 Kitkat was unveiled recently at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

Well, it will take a couple of months for the star smartphone to reach the Indian boundaries. Meanwhile, the tech world has just been informed by a Twitter user ‏@R_aJa_t that the predecessor Samsung Galaxy S4 which runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean has started receiving Android 4.4 KitKat updgrade in India.

The new [KitKat OS 4.4.2] firmware carries the build number I9500ODDFNB3 and the size id 353.59 MB. Reportedly, it is available as an OTA (Over the Air) update in India, however preferably one should try Samsung Kies via update via Wi-Fi.

Go to Settings > More > About > Software Update > download

Revamped Hangout

The hangout app for Android 4.4 OS, now displays SMS and MMS messages

Full screen Album art

While listening to music, the album art will display in a full-screen mode on the lock screen.

Translucent system UI

User can use new window styles and themes to request translucent system UI, including both the status bar and navigation bar.

Full-screen Immersive mode

Now you can view tests in full-screen immersive mode on phones or tablets, hiding all system UI such as the status bar and navigation bar.

Printing

The newest Android 4.4 Kitkat OS allows users to print photos, documents or web pages from their phone or tablet. The printer needs to be connected to Google Cloud Print or HP ePrint printers.

OK Google

Both the Moto X and Nexus 5 now have a unique feature, known as "OK Google". With "Ok Google", you can control your phone without touch. All you need to use voice commands to control your device. From sending a text message to playing music on your phone, this new feature will surely enhance user-experience.

New Dialer

If caller info is not stored in user's contact list, then Android 4.4 will match from local businesses using Google Maps.
