Sony Ericsson has carved a name for itself in the mobile handset market. From 2G and 3G-enabled handsets to great smartphones, Sony Ericsson is a name that has been synonymous with quality, reliability, aesthetics and high-tech features. Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, launched in September 2010 is an example of innovation and style.

Sony Ericsson X8 is a 3G-enabled smartphone running on Android 1.6 (Donut) operating system that can be upgraded to 2.1. It features a memory of 128 MB with 168 MB RAM upgradeable to 16 GB. Sony offers a 2 GB MicroSD on purchase of the handset.

Sony Ericsson X8 weighs only 104 grams and is available in attractive color combinations such as silver and white, aqua blue and white, pink and white, and white alone. These along with aesthetic design of the three main buttons and the handset overall make this quite an attractive-looking smartphone. Additionally, the screen is a TFT three-inch capacitive touch screen featuring scratch proof protection, a Proximity sensor for turning off automatically, Timescape user interface and Accelerometer sensor for the auto-rotation of the user interface.

The 3G-enabled Sony Ericsson X8 provides HSUPA 2 Mbps and HSDPA 7.2 Mbps 3G download speeds. EDGE (up to 236.8 kbps), GPRS (up to 85.6 kbps) and WLAN (Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g) are the other features offered. Additional applications can be downloaded as well in addition to the existing ones. As an entertainment phone, the X8 supports MP3, MP4, WAV and WMV music formats.

Xperia X8 is equipped with a 3.2-megapixel camera with 2048x1536 pixel resolution. The camera also features Geo tagging capability. The X8's TFT touchscreen with a 320x480 pixel resolution supports 16 million colors. Other features of Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 include the unique four corners interface that enables users to drag favorite or frequently used shortcuts such as camera, mail, maps, etc. to the home screen for quick access.

Sony Ericsson X8 offers access to Google Search, Gmail, Google Talk, Maps, Calendar and YouTube. Sony Ericsson provides Google Maps for the Xperia X8 as well as a GPS navigation system. Bluetooth (v2.1 with A2DP) and USB (v2.0 microUSB) connectivity are also provided.

Sony Ericsson X8 is equipped with a Li-Po 1200 mAh standard battery that offers a stand-by time of up to 446 hours in 2G and up to 476 hours in 3G. There are up to 4 hours 45 minutes of talk time offered in 2G and up to 5 hours and 40 minutes in 3G. There is up to 23 hours and 40 minutes of music play provided by the battery as well. Other features supported by Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 include SNS integration, Java MIDP emulator, predictive text input, voice memo and digital compass.

The price in India for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 in India is around Rs. 11,000, while some online stores offer it for as less a price in India as Rs. 8,699.
