Sony just sent the press invitations to local media. The event, as noted on the invite, is apparently scheduled for May 26. It appears that the major electronics company plans to hold a gathering in New Delhi to show off a new smartphone.
We don't know for sure what Sony will announce, but there's a very good chance to see the Xperia M4 Aqua, which they launched at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) in March.
Sources close to GizBot confirmed that Sony will unveil the Xperia M4 Aqua at the event, but it declined to comment further.
But there also seems to be a little bit of a tease of something unexpected, which could mean a variety of things. The company could be planning to bring the Xperia Z4 tablet, or it could just be planning to launch the Xperia A4 in India. We'll see.
The press invite didn't surprise anyone as Sony hasn't had a major smartphone release in India for quite some time. Since Sony faces an uphill challenge in the handset market, it seems that the electronics giant is counting on its new mid-end device to attract buyers in India.
GizBot will be bringing you all the details from the launch event on May 26, where Sony will hopefully tell us about the much-awaited smartphone.
Update: A source has just informed us that Sony is intented to release an altogether new Xperia smartphone in India on May 26. The company has no plans to release the Xperia Z4 tablet at the moment. We'll update the article in due course.
