Google's Android KitKat 4.4 is one update that almost all the Android fans are in need of. The good news for Sony fans now is that the company has now started rolling out the update to its latest devices. The line-up of devices which have started receiving the KitKat update include Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and the Z1 compact.
These three devices are the company's best handsets. The Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 smartphone was updated to Android Jelly Bean 4.3 back in December last year. While Z1 Compact was launched with Android 4.3 OS.
The update brings about a number of performance tweaks and new features as well. The Android 4.4 KitKat also optimizes the UI of the device, improvement in status bar and Quick Settings, Sleek launch animation and live wallpaper across the lock and home screens, improved experiences for Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, TrackID TV, Sony Select, Smart Social Camera and more. Improvements in Sony's Media apps can also be found after you install the update. Which include Walkman, Album and Movies, with Sony Entertainment Network cloud service integration with a more intuitive UI, better download speeds, and more. Also Xperia Themes with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select can be found now.
Sony had in fact announced the list of devices that would get the Android 4.4 KitKat update back in December last year.
But these are not the devices which will be getting the update, the company has also announced that Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z and Xperia ZR will be getting the KitKat update by mid-Q2 2014. It also confirmed KitKat update for Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and the Xperia M2. It did not disclose the exact time-frame though.
It should be noted that the update is rolled out phase-wise so you might have to wait for a while to receive it.
