As the monsoon is here in full swing, the demand for waterproof gadgets and gear usually increases. But this summer, a new affordable waterproof smart phone from Sony may be the best choice for every user.

 

Today Sony has launched the new Xperia M2 Aqua - a waterproof and dust-resistant handset for everyone. Amusingly, there's another handset with the same name, but its specs are completely different. The latest Xperia M2 Aqua is a waterproof handset.

Sony Xperia M2 Aqua : Mid-Range Smartphone Gets Waterproofing

According to Sony Mobile, the new budget waterproof handset from the Japanese giant will be available for purchase beginning September in Latin America, Asia Pacific and Europe. The device will be made available in two colors: Black and White.

Spec-wise, the Sony-made Xperia M2 Aqua is a mid-range handset with above average specifications. The device comes with a 4.8-inch qHD display having a resolution of 960 x 540-pixels.

Like any other budget handset, this very phone features a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of ROM and a microSD card slot. Also, the makers have added a 2,300mAh battery fitted inside.

In the imaging department, it offers an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with Auto Focus and an LED Flash. There's a 1.1MP front camera for selfies. Connectivity options on the handset include: 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi, microUSB 2.0, NFA, Bluetooth and more. The phone is running on the latest Android 4.4.

As mentioned before, the Xperia M2 Aqua is completely waterproof and dust-resistant (IP68 certified). Looks wise, the new handset is similar to the original Xperia M2.

Given its specs and features, Sony might sell the device under Rs. 20,000. Whilst take this info as a pinch of salt. Sony hasn't officially launched the Xperia M2 Aqua in India as yet. The original Xperia M2 Dual-SIM can be purchased in India at Rs. 18,200.
