With the Xperia Z2, Sony has taken a bigger step in the right direction. But, at the same time, the Japanese tech giant is yet to make a big comeback in the mid-range segment.
Sony's big-ticket handsets cost a lot, and that might be the case why the company has been unable to tab the affordable segment in countries like China and India.
Not long ago, Sony quietly announced the Xperia T3, a perfect looking mid-range Android smartphone, although the firm didn't announce the phone's arrival in emerging nations. Now it is being reported that the same very phone will be launched in China with a different name.
The phone in question, Sony Xperia T3 M50w, has been leaked out in a flurry of images. Details coming from a TENAA filing pinpointed at a 720p HD display. Believe it or not, this phone appears to be a local version of the Xperia T3. For now though, the latest information about the Xperia T3 M50w has surfaced out of China.
Specs-wise, the Xperia T3 M50w doesn't look different from the original Xperia T3. The device measures 7mm thick and has a 720p HD display, similar to the Sony Xperia T3, which sports a whooping 5.3-inch 720p HD display.
Like the Xperia T3, the new leaked phone will be powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of on-board memory, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.1-megapixel front-facing camera, and a large 2500mAh batter fitted inside. The phone is wrapped in a gentle stainless steel frame. On the downside, it is unknown whether the Xperia T3 M50w will be water and dust resistant.
The original Sony Xperia T3 will launch globally "from the end of July", but there is no word on the exact release date.
